Should I Induce My Labor?

Updated on April 1, 2013

Inducing Labor - Is it the Way to Bring my Child into this World?

Inducing labor of unborn babies is a hot topic these days. Should I or shouldn't I? Is it safe or dangerous? What are the risks?

Although I am too old to have any more children, this topic certainly interests me. It interests me because it seems that in this mad world that keeps getting faster and faster, I am seeing that more and more couples are opting to make their baby's birth convenient.

To learn more about inducing labor, I purchased the book below, "Inducing Labor - Everything You Need to Know About Inducing Labor at Home or in the Hospital" by Hannah Anderson, Christine Traxler, John S. Anderson. It is available on Kindle for only $2.99 and it is a good investment.

With the advent of cell phones, computers and communication, information on inducing labor can be found and it is wise to investigate the pros and cons. Your investigation should be thorough and should include conversation with your Healthcare Provider.

Induce, or not Induce? That is the Question

There is quite a bit of research out there regarding inducing labor.

None of my children were induced and back when they were born, I only heard of it during emergency circumstances. In the old days, you just waited around until it was your time and that could be anywhere you were at and at any time.

Today, there are many births that are induced. There is still the medical approach to induce a baby, as well as the acupressure and herbal approach.

Acupressure is a method that coaxes inducement through the pressure points on the body. There is much research regarding this and there are several links and videos below.

In addition, there is also an herbal approach where calming herbs are either ingested or used in aromatherapy (in the air or through massage oils) which in some manner, urges the baby out.

In any method, you need to ensure that the birth experience is not traumatic and it is as calming as possible.

The intent of this website is not to influence you in any way, however, I wonder if the fast-paced world that we live in is best served by development or it somehow hinders the health and welfare of the child. I guess that answer will not be known until the current generation of induced-birth babies are old enough to research.
