A Pretty Crochet & Crystal Bat Pendant Or Ornament For Halloween!

Let's say you have that Halloween party coming up. You've got the long black dress for your Halloween outfit and maybe you don't want to go in full costume, but you still want to be festive, right? The perfect solution might be wearing fun Halloween jewelry that you make yourself!

For our very special project, I'll give you my brand new pattern for the "Bat Over The Moon" crocheted pendant with crystal beads to perfectly accent your Halloween outfit!

A little lone bat drifts across the full moon, touching a stray cloud as he flies happily by, his orange eyes sparkling in the dark.

There are several ways you can enjoy this motif! You could glue a circle of felt to the back, add a hanger, and use it as an ornament. You could also attach the bat to a hair clip, as I ended up doing myself. You could even place a tack pin or bar pin finding on the back and wear it as a pin!

Whatever you decide to do with your little bat, s/he would make a wonderful gift for a friend who loves to sparkle, or just for yourself. Happy Halloween!

What You'll Need...

1 Ball Black Perle Cotton Thread

1 Spool Omega Nylon in Gray

1 spool Kreinik gold metallic braid (OR 3 strands of gold metallic embroidery floss)

3 hanks of embroidery floss in different metallic colors of choice (OR 3 spools of different color Kreinik metallic thread)

Crochet hook size 8 or preferred

2 Amber and 2 Orange Swarovski 6 mm bicone crystals

10 light color Swarovski 6 mm bicone crystals in your color choice

For Necklace or Bracelet, one clasp finding set - lobster claw clasp, toggle closure or spring ring closure

For the necklace, itself, you can use a strand of beads strung on .5mm elastic, or two pieces of chain with a jump ring fastener, or a piece of black silk cord, and fasten it onto the sides of the crocheted Bat motif.

The Moon

I used enough strands of Kreinik thread to equal the Perle cotton size. It took 3 strands.

Accent cloud as desired by tacking on Swarovski crystals. If you prefer you may crochet them in as you go. I did not because I wanted to be able to move my layers around then add the beads at the end where they'd be visible.

Finishing

String 10 Swarovski bicones onto gold metallic braid. SC to attach braid to edge of moon anywhere you like. Add bead, chain 5, SC and add bead where it lands on edge of moon. Continue in this manner all the way around. Fasten off, pull end thru to back.
