5 Halloween Films for Kids - And adults, too!

Here are five fun kids Halloween movies. All of these movies are rated PG (with the exception of the later Harry Potter movies) and are geared to appeal to children. However, some of them may be too frightening for very young children, so be sure to exercise judgment when watching with a younger child.

Casper (Widescreen Special Edition)
Casper (Widescreen Special Edition)

Casper the friendly ghost was the star of this 1995 family film about a family that moves into a haunted house.

In addition to Casper, the house is also haunted by his three not-so-friendly uncles, Stretch, Fatso and Stinkie, who do their best to scare people away. This is a great family film for Halloween based on the popular comic book ghost.

Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus

This 1993 Disney film stars Bette Middler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker as three witches who return to Salem, Massachusetts 300 years after their deaths.

It's a popular Halloween film that kids will love, although it might be a little scary for the under-8 crowd.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (Special Edition)
The Nightmare Before Christmas (Special Edition)

Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas is a perfect family film for Halloween or Christmas.

The stop-motion film tells the story of Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town who is bored of the scares and screams of Halloween. So when he stumbles upon Christmas Town, he hatches a plan to take over Santa's job. Unfortunately, the residents of Halloween Town don't quite understand the concept of bringing cheer rather than chills.

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad with Limited Edition Cover Art (1950, Disney, DVD)
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad with Limited Edition Cover Art (1950, Disney, DVD)

This Disney classic contains two spooky short films: The Wind in the Willows and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

The first tells the story of Mr. Toad, and the second recreates the Washington Irving story of Icabod Crane, who learns of the legend of the Headless Horseman and then has a scary ride home as the horseman appears to chase him.

Harry Potter: The Complete 8-Film Collection
Harry Potter: The Complete 8-Film Collection

Adapted from the extremely popular books by JK Rowling, the Harry Potter movies are great for a Halloween party or all-day movie fest for older kids. They might be a little too scary for younger kids.

But with all the witches, sorcerers, ghosts and creepy things, these movies are a perfect way to celebrate Halloween.
