Anticipatory gifts for Kids who Travel

Are we there yet? Haven't you heard these moans from the back seat over the years? If waiting to arrive tests the patience and boredom threshold of your troglodytes, imagine the ramp up to travel. So you understand the need for some, ahhhhhhh anticipatory gifts to ease their boredom, reduce the whines and give a hint of peace to Mom and Dad.

Many kids travel nowadays. Families like to go on holidays. There are many destinations to enjoy and families end up booking some great bargains as a single mega-present. Grandpa and Grandma. Not to worry, they can come along.

As most in our family travel, we have seen what kids really want for the trip. Or, to put it bluntly, what will save their parents' sanity and give them some time to enjoy, too.

9 Gift Suggestions for your Kids' Travel

1. Gifts for long flights or drives

For kids who need to fly fifteen hours, this is a must. Even for kids who have to fly 8 hours. Or what about the kids who have to drive 6 hours to see Grandpa and Grandma? Take a look at some of these fun toys that can be attached to the car seat and make some investment for your family's peace.

I remembered this so well with our grandchildren. This is the first thing they learn to do: unstrap themselves. They hated to be strapped so make it more fun.

For babies- Activity Bar for Entertainment

Perfect fit for baby carriers and prams, this is a great investment. Not only will the baby have so much fun playing with its brilliant and colourful attachments but these tiny little objects help to develop their senses and motor skills. There's a chime bell tree with a teether, a rattling bird, and other shapes to fascinate your child's visual.

2. Gifts to occupy kids in their travel

The tablet is at the top of our gift recommendation. However, when they're only 3, giving them their own Ipad is not really advisable. I was in a plane recently and in front of me was a Mom whom I heard say to her three year old son as she handed him over a package, "I have a gift for you for this trip. Your very own iPad.".

For kids to start working on a tablet, the best tablet to give is the LeapPad. LeapPad has many programs designed for each age level. You can choose the programs to engage them as they go through those long drives or flights. There is only so much you can do to entertain them and get them engaged. Of course, you can train them to entertain themselves but tablets help. Maybe more for you than for them. You can have some quiet time yourself.

Learning Tablets

This learning tablet is a very good investment. A gift kids will cherish and parents will be grateful for. Include the carrying case and programs you want to introduce to the kids. Include a variety of programs that you know will engage them. There are many choices depending on their interest, ranging from Science to Art or other adventure.

Sometimes, I get frustrated. I want the grandchildren to know the latest development in technology and be able to use them. I want to encourage them to think future. At the same time, when I see them stuck into these latest electronics toys, I tell myself, what have I done? No engagement with the outside world. And yet, it surprises me that although they are in their games or their iPhones, they come up sometimes with unexpected comments in the ongoing conversation.

But my worry has been mitigated by this Leapfrog LeapPad Glo. Why? Well, you won't believe it but this tablet has an amazing library of 1,000+ games, eBooks, and videos which passed approval of educators. This Library includes around 2600 titles that will engage your kids' interest in Science, Math, Reading and the Creative Arts.

With 4GB memory (stores up to 20,000 photos or 70 game apps), 2 cameras & video recorders and 9 apps, Music Player with 5 songs, Art Studio, Photo Lab, Pet Writing App, a choice of 1 app download and 4 utilities, this is the tablet little kids in your gift list would truly love.

3. Camera for Little Kids - Yes, your 3 year old who will travel

Double their fun. Preserve their memory. Kids love to take pictures and look at what they've got. This will get them engaged in what you are visiting. Before they leave, get them set up to do an album on return. Check out their favourite music that can be added to this. Many times kids have to wait for us so we can take that perfect picture of whatever temple or castle or Disney character we are visiting. Now, they can take pictures of what interests them and not just posture in total boredom.

The Leapfrog has a good camera for little kids to start photography. It is tough and easy to use. It makes them add fun things to their pictures.

4. Gift kids scrapbooks to organize their pictures or do something creative

Unless kids do something with those pictures they've taken, often they are forgotten after a few showing so encourage them to do a scrapbook. They can tell a story, share about their own experience and other unusual things they have observed in the places they traveled to.

Scrapbooks for Kids

ALEX Toys My Scrapbook
ALEX Toys My Scrapbook

There are so many scrapbooks out there that you can customize for a particular travel experience the kids can focus on. It can be either on the place they are going to, the culture of the people in their destination or about a particular focus on the place such as the wild animals in Africa, the island resorts in Maldives or the vegetarian recipes in India.

Scrapbooks are fun and often, they can use these for school projects. You can enjoy choosing pictures, events, and experiences to include in them.

Kids Love to Share their Experience

5. Gift your kids who travel a beautiful journal

Most kids when they travel have to do something for school. Often, they have to share about their experience so having a journal where they can add pictures and write about highlights of their travel will be most welcome.

With the pictures they take with their own camera, they can make their diaries more interesting. When one of our grandkids came to visit us in Cambodia, she made a scrapbook for her class and it was outstanding. We had fun putting in things as well and getting the materials she needs to put this together. So, get them travel journal that are light to carry and some tiny little stickers they can add to the pages.

Fabulous travel journals to choose from - Your kids will love one of these

Royal & Langnickel Pink Art Journal Book
Royal & Langnickel Pink Art Journal Book

Just love this colour and I know that this will also be the choice of so many little girls. Given its colour, they will love writing or pasting or drawing things on it.

Our grand kids love this journal. The girls love the pink colour of course but also the elastic strap that holds the journal together and keeps the pages from getting disintegrated. The pages are soft to the touch when you write making the experience much more pleasant.

6. Books for kids travel - Get them at auctions

I recommend books that are easy to read with many pictures of things that spur on their imagination. Magazines of their favourite sports, favourite stars or singers or whomever is their latest idol. This is for a bit older trog of course and you will have some peace as they like to read some of the articles over and over again.

Try a bit of caution when you choose any of these as some of the values they promote are just offensive but until when can we shield them from what is everyday reality? We can read those so we can share views with them.

7. Gift them Music and Entertainment

Hello Kitty Zebra Print DJ Headphones (35209)
Hello Kitty Zebra Print DJ Headphones (35209)

Kids love Hello Kitty so here's one more to add to their collection. Not just for display but to entertain them especially on long drives or flights. Most kids now have their own iPods so this headphone will work well.

We were with our grand daughter driving through Sicily and she just listened to her music the whole time. No complaints even when the drives were lengthy.

8. Things to Do Kits

Just great for kids who travel

There are many how to kits that can engage kids for some time and give you the peace you need. Yesterday, I was in a hotel lobby and saw parents with 3 kids. While the Mom was teaching the older one, the two younger were opening a dress up kit for their dolls and they were so engaged on this that Dad is on his laptop working happily. A dream? Maybe not, when you plan well.

Get supplies from the craft stores: paper, pens, crayons, a pair of scissors or two, scrapbooking kits and supplies and you'll be grateful for the hours they'll spend on these. You also encourage their imagination and creativity.

9. Travel Luggage Best for Kids

Travel Buddies Luggage Set, Archie Alien
Travel Buddies Luggage Set, Archie Alien

This set, Travel Buddies, includes an 18" wheelie suitcase with matching 13" hard-shell back pack. A perfect match for the kid who is going on a trip. She can check in the big one and carry the smaller one on the plane for the things she will need on the flight. Although hard shell, it is very light. The handle can be adjusted to adult height so when parents have to roll them, they don't have to stoop. The backpack has a child back straps but also a hand carried handle. The big one weighs less than 5 lbs. and the smaller one about 1.5 lb.

For brothers, these partner bags are perfect for the kids need and the style and color fit them well. They will love these two and will think of you in a special way.

This is a great lens. I love how interactive it is. I agree cameras our great. We had a wonderful trip to Colorado this summer and my daughter took some amazing pictures. It's great to see what were important pictures to her. It wasn't always the same as my wife and I. She really captured some unique perspectives.

Cameras are a great idea. I have given the kids their own little camera to take pictures from their perspective while traveling. I still like to do the old fashion stuff when traveling in a car like games with road signs and such.

I love the idea of giving kids a traveling gift. We just started traveling with our children. I made a small gift bag filled with goodies for our girls. We didn't let them open it until they got on the rode. They loved it!! I filled it with snacks and little toys from the dollar store.

I have traveled a lot with kids, and have to say that an iPad or similar is actually a good choice! They will be exhausted when they arrive, but at least they will not be too bored. For the actual holiday a camera is a great thing, together with a scrap book.

As an extensive traveler you've been able to observe a lot of children who travel and would know first hand how to entertain them and save the sanity of parents and other travelers around them for sure and your gift selection would be considered awesome by all children.
