Lisbeth Salander Costume Ideas - The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Halloween Costume

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Costume - How To Dress Up Like Lisbeth Salander

Want A Fun Halloween Costume This Year? Dress Up As Lisbeth Salander. Lisbeth Salander is known as The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and this unique character would make a great Halloween costume this year. The character of Lisbeth Salander comes from a book triology written by Swedish author, Stieg Larsson. These three books, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest, were all made into films starring Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was also made into an American film in 2011, this version starred Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara.

Learn the story behind this great costume idea. You will find Lisbeth Salander in The Millennium Trilogy books and movies.

The first book of the Mellenium Trilogy, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, tells us about a crime from almost 40 years ago. A short summary is that Mikael (Kalle) Blomkvist, a now discredited journalist, is hired to by Henrik Vanger to solve the mystery of what happened to his granddaughter, Harriet. Young Harriet Vanger disappeared from the family's home on an island one day in 1966. Everyone believes Harriet is dead and probably murdered, but year after year her grandfather receives a gift that seems to come from her on his birthday. It is driving the old man crazy. He believes the gifts are from Harriet's killer and it's torture to him for he loved Harriet dearly.

Lisbeth Salander is an odd one. She is a talented computer hacker, an unsocialized person, someone who grew up in the system and now tries to stay outside of it. Lisbeth has been abused for most of her life. She helps Mikael figure out exactly what happened to Harriet. Lisbeth is the girl with the dragon tattoo. Because of her on the streets and abused life style Lisbeth is quite a rough character. She is street smart and knows pretty much how to take care of herself. She is part of the punk culture and her look is one that makes people stare. What better references are needed for a Halloween costume theme!

How To Make Your Own Homemade Lisbeth Salander Costume

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Costume Ideas

Now let's get down to making a Lisbeth Salander costume. Think Punk! When you are designing a homemade Lisbeth Salander costume you have to think PUNK. Lisbeth wore tight pants, so think skinny jeans or leather pants...you can also use tights. Whichever type of pants they are, they have to be a good, tight fit. A T-shirt was Lisbeth's top of choice, a dark one, preferably black. Use an old one because Lisbeth cut the sleeves off her T. A black leather jacket would be the perfect accessory for your Girl With The Dragon Tattoo costume, but any dark jacket will work or you can wear a hoodie.

Here's the list of clothing you can use:

  • Skinny Jeans or Leather Pants
  • T-shirt in a Dark Color
  • Leather Jacket or Hoodie
  • Belt
  • Boots (See Below)

Other costume accessories you can use are:

  • Dragon Earrings
  • A Temporary Dragon Tattoo
  • A Laptop - Lisbeth is a Hacker

Lisbeth Salander Wore Combat Boots

Lisbeth wore combat boots...big, black combat boots. If you are going to buy a pair of boots for this Halloween costume, make sure they are something you will wear when Halloweeen is over. You can just wear a pair of dark boots that you already own...you don't want to spend a fortune on boots to wear one day as part of a costume.

Temporary Tattoos, Clip On Lip Rings, Eyebrow Rings

Nose Rings And Black Eyeliner

You will need some temporary tattoos, some body piercings...okay you can fake the body piercings with some clip on style lip rings, eyebrow rings and nose rings. Earrings are another accessory you will need, so look through your jewelry box for some black ones. Lisbeth's makeup isn't fancy or girly at all. She wore a lot of black eyeliner on her bottom eyelid. Look at a picture of Lizbeth, her face is pale, her lips are done with black lipstick goth style.

The dragon tattoo is like a signature for Lisbeth Salander. It's in the book title, it describes her, it's a part of her. It shows her spirit.

Now you really don't see the dragon tattoo that is in the title of this homemade costume, you wouldn't even be able to see it..it was on Lisbeth's back. You can put a dragon tattoo on your arms, your neck or somewhere where it will attract some attention. You can use the temporary tattoos that are very popular today or if you are an artist you can ink your own dragon image with a makeup pencil. I think it would be fun to put your temporary tattoo somewhere it can be seen.

The Lisbeth Salander Mohawk Hair Style

Lisbeth's hair is going to be a challenge for some of you. You can wear your hair short and messy, get an asymmetrical hair cut or wear the mohawk. Her most memorable hair style is the Mohawk, even though it was only seen in the third movie, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest. You can gel your hair into a spikey do or you can find a Mohawk costume wig.

During most of the three movies Lisbeth wore her hair in pixie style with an asymmetric cut with longish bangs. It was a short hair style with bangs, one side was longer than the other.

Words To Describe The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

What Is Lisbeth Salander Really Like?

Lisbeth Salander is a rebellious, a disturbed and wounded young woman. She is spunky, she a bit of a goth, a bit cyberpunk, she is an introvert, a hacker, a dark heroine. She is mistrustful, hyperalert, and brilliant on a computer, she can ferret out information from a computer like your or I can say our names. She is small, extremely thin and gaunt looking, she has a bad hair cut, lots of piercings, tattoos, looks like a child, and wears her hair in a big spiked mohawk some days. In other words, Lisbeth is a fantastic subject for a Halloween costume.
