Decorate a Golf Cart for Mardi Gras
Get Ready for the Mardi Gras Parade!
It's not every day that you can decorate your golf cart with purple and gold and lots of bling. Every year when Mardi Gras rolls around, our senior community has a parade. The residents turn out to see the creative way the golf carts in the parade are decorated.
People wear fun hats and flashy masks, buy something to eat at the food booths and watch the parade. There is always energetic music, bead tossing and lots of fun going on.
Years ago, I made a page about decorating your golf cart. It gave examples of Christmas decorating, 4th of July decorating, and one little example of Mardi Gras decorating. I decided it was time to expand on that.
You'll find plenty of ideas here for fancying up your golf cart for a Mardi Gras parade.
Decide on a Theme for the Cart
This club transformed their cart into an RV, since they are an RV club. They then added Mardi Gras themed touches like the enormous feathered mask and beads.
Other clubs like the belly dancing club and the fishing club added their own flair to their costumes and decorated entry in the parade.
A lot of work went into these parade entries and I bet the participants had a lot of fun assembling them.

Decorations for the Golf Cart
Purple green and yellow fit the theme. Check out the oversized comedy and tragedy faces. I'm sure you can put those to use.
There's some bunting to attach in swags to the front and back of the cart or around the roof line.
The colorful table cloth will cover a good sized area such as the golf cart seats or the roof. Be sure to attach everything well and drive slowly to the parade site so nothing blows off.

Fabric Bunting in Mardi Gras Colors
They show the bunting here on a railing, but it would look equally fine on your golf cart. Use it as a trim around the roof of the cart or as a skirting around the lower part.
Tips for Decorating This Cart
I chatted with the owner and found out what they used for their decorations. Below are the list of materials they used in fancying up this cart.
Be sure to drive up and down your street for a trial run. You don't want to be surprised in the middle of the parade with decorations falling off.

What You Need
- Rubber bouncy ball
- Plastic table cloths
- Crepe paper flowers
- Clear duct tape
- Plastic ties or twist ties
1. Attach the bouncy ball to the roof of the cart with a bungy cord that goes across the roof and fastens under the roof.
2. Drape plastic table cloths from the ball to each corner of the roof.
3. Attach pom poms or giant paper flowers to the cart. If you use the clear duct tape, make sure it won't pull off the paint. Most decorations can be attached with those long plastic ties.
Mardi Gras Table Cloth
Use this to cover the roof of the golf cart or to make swags like curtains for the side or other uses. You have your gold/yellow with green and purple, so the right colors for the event. You can check at the local dollar store or discount stores like Walmart or just order this one from Amazon to save hunting around.
Sea Monster Themed Golf Cart - with a Boat
The fishing club chose an ambitious golf cart float. They've made a sea monster and combined it with a boat towed by the golf cart.
I'm sorry the photo is a little dark. You have to look closely to see the sea monster. The monster rests on a platform that has its own wheels.
Don't miss out on all the fun. Fancy up that golf cart, put on your costume and live it up!
Don't Forget to Decorate the Driver and Passengers - for the Parade
Again there's plenty of purple, yellow and green, but look at the variety of styles. Find one that you're brave enough to wear. Dress up the dog while you're at it.
Lots of ruffles on this glamorous outfit. When the passengers in the decorated cart are all fancied up too, everyone will be impressed with your entourage!

Don't Forget to Dress Up the Dog for the Mardi Gras Parade Too
You'll get lots of oohs and ahs from the crowd when you dress your dog in this colorful costume. It comes in a variety of sizes. It has the Mardi Gras colors of purple, gold, and green with a ruff around the neck and a fancy headpiece.
In 2019, the PALS (Pets Are Loved in Solivita) encouraged everyone to bring their dog to march in the parade behind their decorated golf cart. They even had extra costumes on hand for those who did not have any.
