Mother's Day Crafts for Kids

Updated on March 20, 2013

Need Ideas for Mother's Day Crafts for Kids?

Some of the most touching Mother's Day gifts are those homemade treats from our kids. Sometimes, they create memorable crafts as school projects. Other times, kids want to make a special gift at home.

Kids can create all kinds of crafts for mom. Suggestions include bath salts, homemade cards, foam photo frame, wind chimes and more.

First, talk to your students, scouts or kids and ask them for ideas. They may know the type of craft they'd like to work on for Mother's Day. Or they may want to create a certain kind of gift but need help with putting it together.

If you need ideas, here's a list of craft kits that will delight moms on their special day: a foam hanger, in the shape of a child's hand; handmade sticker cards; a wind chime; and a stepping stone. We've also included a craft book that will help with more ideas.

My son has made some wonderful handmade gifts for Mother's Day. One of my favorites hangs in my kitchen. He made it in first grade. It's a tracing of his hand, which they colored in marker. They added this as a 'flower' to a large sheet of construction paper. They added to the hand-shaped flower by adding construction paper green stem and leaves. He signed it with love. Every time I see it, I remember how happy he was in making it for me. And I think about how big his hand - and he - has grown since then.

Here's to making Mother's Day crafts that will create memories for years to come!

Mother's Day Hand Keepsake Craft Kit (12 count)

Make mom a cute Mother's Day hand keepsake craft. These personalized hand crafts are memorable because they capture a moment in time, and a child's hand print.

This package is perfect for day care, school, scouts, and after school programs because you'll receive enough materials for 12 crafts.

Most of the kit items are pre-cut. The main part of the craft - the hand -- needs to be cut manually. This is great because the child's hands will be an outline of their hand (rather than a standard hand shape).

You will need scissors and foam glue, which are not included in the kit.

4M Make a Wind Chime

Kids will have fun making mom a wind chime with this craft kit.

It includes materials to make one chime: 2 terra cotta pots, chime rods, paint strip, cord, line, and a brush. Instructions are included.

After assembling the chime, kids will enjoy painting and decorating it.

Sweet craft. Every time the wind blows and creates pretty music, mom will think of her kids.

Milestones, Kids Step Stone Kit

If you want to help the kids make a memorable gift, try this Milestones step stone kit. It includes everything they'll need to create a round stepping stone for mom.

The kit includes the stone mix and decorations, such as rainbow rocks, glass gems and glitter. Kids can make a print of their hand and write their personal message with the kit's craft stick for writing.

Supervision is necessary, and it's not appropriate for kids under 3 because of the small pieces.

It's also a winner of the 1998 Parents Choice Approval stamp.

Create Your Own Mother's Day Sticker Cards

This is a simple and fun way to make a gift for mom. Create your handmade sticker card with this kit.

It includes 2 blank cards for kids to write their own message to mom. There are also 19 fun stickers to decorate the card.

Mother's Day Crafts (Fun Holiday Crafts Kids Can Do)

Sometimes, it's hard to think of craft ideas. You don't want your child's enthusiasm to be crushed when they can't find a fun craft. Here's a book that can help!

Perfect for kids in grade 3 to 5, this book gives simple instructions on Mother's Day crafts. Projects include CD photo frame, bath salts, cupcake magnets, and a paper-plate tulip sun catcher.

You can choose from 10 projects in this holiday craft kit.

Gather Your Craft Supplies

You may have some craft supplies on hand, but if not, here's a list of handy material for the kids' craft projects. These are the basics to create most projects. And they're versatile for different art.

Crayola Construction Paper, 240 Count, Assorted Colors

Crayola products are my favorite! I know the quality is good. For construction paper, that means the color is consistent, and the weight is heavier than the cheaper, lightweight ones.

Darice 20-Piece Kids Brush Set

I like this because it includes different brush sizes. You'll need the smaller tips for fine artwork, like adding a thin border of color or glitter. The sponge brushes are great for painting larger areas.

We have several different types of scissors, for personal preference on how they cut, specialty cuts and how they feel in your hand.

My son loves to draw and can spend hours coming up with new ideas. However, it's always fun to look through the Art Lab book for inspiration.

@julieannbrady: One of my favorites - stepping stones. And with lots of kids, it's a fun, memory kind of craft.

I LOVE stepping stones! Especially if there are a lot of kids ... then mom can start a garden with all the stones.
