My Favorite Christmas Album, Beyond the Season - Garth Brooks
This album came out in 1992 and I originally had it on cassette. I was a huge Garth Brooks fan (still am) and it became my favorite and most listened to Christmas album. There is one song on the album that I listened to more than others though which is "The Friendly Beasts." I wondered if it was a Garth Brooks original since I'd never heard it before but soon found out that others had recorded the song.
"The Friendly Beasts" is about animals in the manager giving Jesus gifts. It's suprising that this is my favorite song on the album though because Garth Brooks has help from others singing the parts of different animals talking about their gifts, so it's not just him singing it, but it works out nicely this way. You'll hear Garth Brooks singing at the beginning and ending of the song in this one. I never really looked to see who else sang the song with him either.
I also love the upbeat country sounding Christmas songs on the album like "The Old Man's Back In Town" and "Santa Looked A Lot Like Daddy" which are very fun to sing along with.
The album also has popular Christmas songs like "Go Tell It On The Mountain", "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", "White Christmas", and "Silent Night." They are all very good and "Silent Night" is especially beautifully sung.
"The Gift" and "Unto You This Night" are slow songs that I also really like. There really isn't a dud on this album.
I like to listen to mostly Christmas music in December and am happy to have this one on CD now. For awhile I lost the cassette and really missed listening to this album on Christmas.
What do you think of "Beyond the Season"
Here are some more of my favorite Christmas albums.
The Beach Boys are my favorite oldies band and one of my favorite Christmas songs has become "Little Saint Nick" which is on this album. I like to listen to that one over and over. The other songs are great too of course but that one really sticks out.
This is an amazing a capella Christmas album with lots of familiar Christmas songs. This album is from 2008 but they have other Christmas albums as well. I would really love to see them live... "The 12 Days of Christmas" song on this album is live and it sounds like they are having a lot of fun.
