Personalised Gift Basket Ideas for Valentine's Day

Updated on January 21, 2014

Spoil the Special One in Your Life!

I've always loved giving gifts, and even more, I usually love putting together a whole lot of things that fit in with that person's personality and what interests them.

My love for Gift Baskets began a long time ago when I browsed through a little book from Australian Women's Weekly Magazine's, "The Book of Gifts". It had a section in it about Gift Baskets that you could put together yourself that was truly wonderful and very inspirational. We did not have Mail Order companies in South Africa then and Australia was miles ahead of us as far as style was concerned which is why it made such an impression then!

If you really want to make an impression on the person you love, it stands to reason that you have to know what they like and love.

If you do and you would like to make a Gift Basket to blow them away, look no further than your heart and hopefully the ideas below will help you to put together a small or large symbol of your love that is truly personal.

Start the Day off exquisitely - with a Delectable Goodies Gourmet Tray

Breakfast in Bed!
Breakfast in Bed!

This is perfect if your partner lives in. Choose items that you just know is going to wow her! To do this, choose a colour scheme that you know she will love. Valentine's theme is red, so you can still bring this in with a single Red Rose, or a heart shaped chocolate wrapped in red. But be different and don't just stick to red, be personal and go with her colour! This will show her that you really care!

Choose the tray in this colour and arrange all the other goodies on it. Be sure to include her favourite treats, a magazine or a CD. You can also add a personalised china cup or mug, some luxury toiletries or even jewelry. Some inexpensive items can include a single flower from your garden or herb pots, a bookmark or a hot-water bottle.

It can be extravagant or simple, the secret is, it must reflect what you know she likes! The same goes for a guy too! Wow his stomach and tastebuds with delectable treats that you just know will make him sit up straight and shower you with kisses!

Wow your Girl with an Eccentric Look - Go to town with a Sweets and Baubles Mix

This is perfect if she's a girlie girl.

Choose her favourite colour and collect sweets and treats to spread in a luxury box. Add costume or real jewellery, small toiletries and perfume to the mix depending on your budget and wrap it in a silk nightie tied with an extravagant sash.

Size here only depends on how deep your pocket is! Add a gift voucher for a personal massage (by you!) at any time of her choosing and you're sure to get a hug and squeeze to warm your own heart too!

Surprise your Romantic Life Partner - with Stylish Simplicity

This is perfect for your mature lady-love. If she's a true romantic, be sure to add frills and lace, an old photo frame with a nostalgic black and white photo of the two of you, a handwritten scroll of poetry, silky lingerie or bed linen, homemade heart-shaped biscuits, a Victorian Card with your heartfelt words and if you can, a brooch, diamonds, pearls or any precious stone, champagne and two flute shaped glasses, wrapped up in a flurry of white tissue paper in a quaint tin or container that gives a Victorian feel.

You can really roll out the charm with this one! Write a funny or memorable saying onto white gloss paper and tuck it in. Sprinkle with potpourri or confetti just before giving it.

For the Coffee Lover - in your life

If your man is a gourmet coffee lover (or just loves coffee!) this is the perfect opportunity to spoil him rotten! Find a dark coffee coloured basket, tin or box and fill it with divine cookies, chocolates and of course, a variety of coffee beans or ground coffee mixes. Add a coffee plunger if he doesn't already have one, or a small flask of hot coffee from his favourite brand coffee shop. Add a scroll or card with the history of the perfect cuppa, a personalised mug and a tin of after dinner mints and he's sure to cuddle up with you to enjoy it all!

I love making gift baskets for special occasions. My mom collects apples, so for Christmas last year I did up an apple gift basket full of apple themed items. This is a great way to personalize gifts for your friends or family, and create something that they will enjoy!
