Personalized Gift of Music for the Grieving or Troubled

Updated on December 3, 2012

Gift Idea for Someone Struggling at Christmas

I love Christmas, so to experience a difficult time at Christmas several years ago was a first for me. My husband and I were in the middle of our adoption process to bring our son home. We had anticipated and hoped he would be home by Christmas, or we would at least be with him in his country finalizing the adoption. Delays that are so common to the adoption process kept this from happening, and because our son's health was deteriorating, we were very concerned for him. Celebrating anything was the furthest thing from our minds.

No matter what it is I'm going through, music has always been a tremendous help during the most difficult of times. I wanted to share some songs that have ministered to my spirit and encouraged my heart when I was struggling through something. Modern technology now enables us to be able to purchase individual songs and to personalize our own playlists or listening collections onto an iPod. Consider putting together a collection from some of these suggestions of songs onto an iPod for someone in your life experiencing a difficult Christmas this year!

Ever been going through a difficult time at Christmas?

Have you ever been troubled by something at Christmas, to the point of making it impossible or difficult to get into the Christmas spirit?

Finding Peace

The most important thing to remember as a child of God is no matter what is going on in your life, you can stand on His promises, such as from Isaiah 26:2-4: "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you."

What better way to keep your mind steadfast than to keep it filled with music that uplifts your spirit with truth-filled lyrics.

The Rest of the Story

So.... we attempted to spend Christmas quietly at home, but my mom talked us into coming to the family gathering. I asked her to be sensitive to our need not to be expected to be in the "normal happy Christmas mood". She said she would but then needed to be reminded even still. It was a difficult Christmas and we did not give out our gifts until we could do so with our son after he came home as we initially planned.

We did end up getting travel approval very early on in the New Year and our son was "ours" on January 15th of that year. He is a happy, healthy, well-adjusted little boy now with whom we get to celebrate every Christmas now!
