October Is National Popcorn Poppin' Month!

About Popcorn - Pop Pop Pop....Yummy!

Opposite to what probably most people think: popcorn is rather old. In a cave in New Mexico, Indians found popped corn as old as 5000 years. In old tombs in Peru they've found corn that could have been used to pop, of an even older age.

Popcorn is a corn (maize) which kernels have a hard moister sealed hull and a dense starchy filling. By heating it in the proper way, the pressure inside will build up to a point of exploding and that's the 'pop' you hear. When it's heated in an uncovered pan, it will fly all over your kitchen and that's why most popcorn in the USA is sold in special bags, which you can use in the microwave. When popping it in a baking pan, be sure to put a lit on.

Today some strains of corn have been cultivated specially as popping corns.

Home Decoration or Give away

You can either make these Halloween popcorn hands to decorate your own home, or you can make them to give out to the kids that will come to your door.

How to make your own Popcorn Hands

Fun alternative to handing out candy!

Ingredients needed:

* Clear polyethylene food service gloves

* Candy corn

* Popcorn

* Black or orange ribbon or yarn

* Optional: Plastic spider ring

1. Pop the popcorn according to the package directions.

2. Place 1-3 pieces of candy corn at the end of each finger (depending on the size of glove), Place the pointy side of the candy corn in first, to make fingernails.

3. Fill the rest of the glove with popped corn. Pack it pretty tight so it will keep its shape.

4. Tie it off with ribbon or yarn.

5. Pimp your popcorn gloves with creepy spider rings.

What you need to make Popcorn Hands

1. Disposable gloves

They come in many sorts and sizes, but for making the popcorn filled hands, you'll need transparent gloves. These disposable gloves are ideal for making your popcorn hands. When you're done, you still have enough left to use for other cleaning kitchen chores, so you don't get your hands dirty.

2. Candy Corn

With Candy Corn you can make the fingertips in your popcorn gloves. You can of course always search for other flavour and colored candy corn.

3. Ready to eat popcorn

You'll need a lot of popcorn, so you might want to buy 2 or 3 of these. Make sure you buy some you like, because there will be a lot of popcorn to eat afterwards. You could also buy some different flavours which will give different colors to your Halloween popcorn hands.

4. Binding ribbon

You'll need ribbon to close your gloves, or the corn will fall out and then you have to start all over again. There are lots of different colored ribbons to choose from. The nicest ones are the ones you can curl.

5. Halloween spider rings

Last but not least you can pimp up your popcorn hands with spider rings. Spider rings will give your hands that special spooky, creepy Halloween look.

      My skin gets very dry so I already have the gloves that you mention in your article for making popcorn hands so this should be very easy for me. Might even be able to make a Popcorn Halloween spider using this technique

      I thoroughly enjoyed this lens!

      At first I thought those were popcorn ball hands, but loose popcorn packed in a glove is much easier to do. :)
