Popchilla Robot

Popchilla Helps Autistic Kids

Researchers have found that robots can be very effective in teaching Autistic kids. Until recently little was known about Autism and most children with Autism were isolated in special classes. The number of children with Autism continues to rise and ASD or Autism Spectrum Disorder is being met with dedicated schools and teachers.

The toy animal, Popchilla is connected to a mobile iphone or ipad and is activated by a touch screen. It has glowing eyes that light up in different colors to portray different emotions. Autistic children generally have a hard time looking at people's faces and the toy robot is able to attract their attention with this feature. Popchilla moves and shows facial expressions enabling it to teach the children simple tasks such as brushing teeth.

Furby

New Furby

Furby is an amazing robotic toy that looks sort of like an owl or furry creature you might keep as a pet. They became very popular in the late 90s and were sold by the millions to adoring owners who embraced the first real attempt to sell robots to the public. They released an updated model in the mid-2000s which had more expressions and movements. Now a 2012 version has been released that has more expressive eyes and facial movements and can learn to personally interact with it's owner. These are an excellent toy for the robot loving kid.

For now, we assume that self-evolving robots will learn to mimic human traits, including, eventually, humor. And so, I can't wait to hear the first joke that one robot tells to another robot.
