Romantic Dinner Set For Two
Looking For Inexpensive Ideas?
Romantic dinner for two is inexpensive. Generally the cost of the meal itself is about 1/3 what you would pay in a restaurant. It is a fabulous way to celebrate Valentine's Day or just a quiet, intimate evening with your beloved. Below are some of my ideas for bringing a restaurant setting into the home.
I gave my guy a romantic table setting on Valentine's Day because he is a very practical kind of fella. The table dressing was a way to compliment his wonderful cooking. With the both of us having food allergies and diet restrictions we find it difficult to find an agreeable menu when we dine out. I thought it would be a great way to bring a restaurant scene home and enjoy my personal gourmet's creations.
To me the cost of dining out and waiting in line are also a hassle. Last minute or impromptu decisions on where to go for a romantic dinner if you don't have reservations are going to be trouble some. The frenetic energy on Valentine's Day just gets crazy and crowded so save yourself the trouble and celebrate with a small dinner at home.
The first thing we'll need to do is set the table...
Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.

Dinner For Two - Romance At Home
Whether your romantic dinner setting is inside your home in the dining room or set out on the balcony, a sweet mood can be set with the right details. This is a great way to spend a quiet, intimate evening together.
Prepare a simple meal with a cozy table setting and have dinner at home. Put on some soft music and enjoy each other's company without the noisy atmosphere that comes with a restaurant. Dining at home is very romantic and wonderfully private. This is important to us because we both work around people all week and the quiet, hassle free moments are a huge blessing for both of us.

Green would be a great color for a natural table setting. Mix elements of woods and khaki atop the table with this color.
Start With A Round Tablecloth And Napkins - The Foundation Of Your Table
The foundation of a romantic table setting is of course the table itself. It is the base you will build from. A round table cloth dresses and frames your entire dining scene. The edges will hang even around a table's edge so it won't distract the eye from details placed upon its surface. With the right tablecloth you can achieve the effect of your own private bistro or elegant restaurant.
Add a set of cloth dinner napkins to match the table cloth. Machine washable napkins are nice not only for the romantic table setting they are good for the environment as they are machine washable and can be reused time and again.
Having a table set with linen dinner napkins lends to the elegance of a fine dining experience. A dinner napkin matching or complimenting your table cloth and place mats says this is a fancy place to eat!
Arrange a dinner napkins in a variety of ways. You can fold a napkin into a fan on the center of the plate or roll set it to the left side of a place mat.
Arrange A Romantic Atmosphere
Arrange a romantic atmosphere with soft candlelight and quiet music. There is nothing more perfect for adding intimacy than dim lights and sweet, soft music.
I love dimming the lamps, light conversation, and a few quiet moments built around a fabulous dinner. This whole mood can be arranged from start to finish with a few pre-planned ideas. Of course you have to both work together to keep the evening mellow.
Plan this ahead of time. It could be a surprise for your loved one but with the way things can get in our hectic day, it would be better if you both know that this is a special occasion. It may be a disaster if someone comes home from a very long day and they are just wiped out and cranky.
Take time to plan for this kind of quality time. This is one of the elements that strengthen long term relationships. Keep the romance young and alive!

Next - Add Two Placemats - For Your Table Setting
Choose a place mat color and design to compliment or contrast your table cloth. Place mats can be cloth, bamboo, or vinyl. They can be used to hide a note under the side you want your sweetheart to read when you sit down to dine. Functional place mats help keep everything in place and give you an area to personalize your special someone's dining experience. An added plus is they help catch crumbs and spills.
I chose a place mat that had a geometrical pattern in shades of grey for this element of the table setting.
Then - Mood Lighting: Candle Flames
Romantic Candles For Mood Lighting
Candles are always a romantic touch. They add the perfect mood lighting when you are creating an intimate setting. Station a set of candles in the center of the table in simple glass holders or use a couple of candle sticks for drama. Candle light is a must for an elegant dinner. The sway of the candle flame casts a spell over your romantic table. The soft light from a candle flame produces a calm, warm atmosphere.
Lighting Idea: Tea Light Candle With Mirror Base
Turn On Some Soft Music
With soft hits like Three Times a Lady and Unforgettable you are sure to have the right soundtrack for your intimate dinner at home. If you two are slow dancers this song list may just have you swaying in one another's arms after your meal is finished.
Note To Self...
Don't Forget The Flowers!
Settings With Roses
Roses are a traditional romance flower. Their blossoms, fragrance, and tender petals have been used through the centuries as gifts and accents for romance.
They represent love and affection when given as gifts.
This simple display features pink touched roses as a center piece with a trio of small tea light candle holders.
There is no need for fancy décor in this setting. The roses are all that is needed.
This would be a perfect look for anniversary or birthday or Valentine's Day.
I Chose Orchids
Flower Center Pieces
Fine restaurants always have a sprig or two of flowers in a dainty vase. An arrangement of silk flowers will decorate your table setting well and they last forever!
The First Course Is Served....
Romantic Dinner Menu
A simple 7 course dinner can be made easily at home. Compliment a cut of beef, chicken, or fish with a side vegetable and pasta, rice, or potato. Couple this meal with a dinner roll and a salad then dine at home for about 1/3 of the cost of dining out.
Create a menu that mimics fine dining at home. Begin with appetizers and light fare so when the meal is complete you aren't weighed down by dinner and still have room for a sweet dessert!
Here are a few simple dinner menu ideas I would use. I am not the real cook in the relationship, he is. Most of my meals center around Southern cooking and anything I can toss in the oven or crock pot. I don't think a pot roast or a baked chicken is very romantic, but then again, anything that is finger lickin' good would be kind of sexy. Keep that in mind when you are making your course selections!
Oh, and for heaven's sakes, skip the onions and the garlic tonight!
