Scary Animated Halloween Props
Scary and Animated Halloween Props and Decorations Creep Me Right Out...
First of all, some houses don't NEED any scary animated Halloween props to "set the mood..." Some of these places just lend themselves to general creepiness by their very nature.
For example, look at this photo. I took this photo this morning of a house on my street. I'm sure it's a very nice house, but when I walk by that in twighlight, I can't help but have a little shudder. (Update: 9/12/12: Just walked by it again. Still creepy. Sorry neighbors! It's just... uh... you know...)
Also, in my town, John & I have lived in a haunted house (seriously folks... but that's another story for another time), and when John was growing up, he lived in a haunted house for a few years. And then a mountain camp - also in our town up here - is haunted.
So, who needs the props when you have the real thing?
Well, in general suburbia, it's likely that you need a hand to help get your property in the right mood for Halloween!
What I have done here is to offer a theme based on the "approach" to your door... that is, as trick-or-treaters, or your Halloween party guests step from the curb, up your driveway and walkway, to your door!
Hope you'll like what I've come up with here! I figure if they're scary enough to creep me out, then they might be just the thing for you!
Before We Begin... - What are your experiences with haunted or spooky houses?
As I mentioned in the introduction to this article, we've lived in a haunted house - but until I had actually experienced it myself, I had my doubts. Not any more!
So my question to you is: Have you ever had a haunted house experience?
Now, Let's Look at the APPROACH to Your House!
he he he...
Again, this photo - while lovely on a sunny afternoon (I took this photo of a spooky driveway leading to a spooky-looking house) - can get downright creepy at night.
Now, imagine our happy trick-or-treaters prancing down this driveway after dark.
Think it needs anything other than the utter darkness and creepiness of the woods crowding in closely to scare the bejabbers out of anyone at Halloween?
Nah. Me neither... BUT, what if.... what if... (please continue...)
Bwah ha ha ha ha! Add an Animated Motion Sensor Talking Tree! - GREAT Animated Halloween Prop!
Oh... If I were walking up a driveway and tripped the sensor on this thing, I'm not sure I'd make it home! :) This is SURE to do the trick! Now, let's say you're using it as a party decoration - you might mount it above the mantel. Maybe on a fence if it's an outdoor party. In other words, you don't HAVE to have a long creepy driveway.
Seriously... who would ever think you had this on one of your trees going up the driveway!
Ok, I see TWO potential things happening here:
1) People get jolted, but they laugh and continue up your driveway to get candy, or
2) They freak out, run away, and you get to keep all the candy for yourself.
Ok... NOW, the NEXT Animated Halloween Prop: First thing you do is get a Motion Sensor Light...
And you'll place it where your unsuspecting guest will next see...
A HALF-BURIED ZOMBIE!
Oh... This is good. Really good. Just THINKING about this PARTICULAR Halloween prop gives me the willies. First, you'll need to strategically place the zombie and the light so that the guest won't miss the creepiness!
There are a lot of small motion sensor lights out there... let's look at what we can find to make this particular scene work best.
Set up a PORTABLE Motion Sensor Light for the Best Effect!
Here are couple of small portable motion sensor lights in order to place it for the best approach. You'll need to experiment with this a little!
I can already sense the planning of this... hee hee hee...
This is perfect for our little Halloween situation! BATTERY POWERED! he he he he....
This can be 30 feet away and work! Also battery operated. Need we say more?
Now Let's Add our GARDEN ZOMBIE!!! - How Creepy Do You Want This??
You can go as ghoulish as you want on this. If you don't want to be TOO scary, you can light up a "Zombie Gnome" - or "Gnombie!" :)
Not as bad as evil clowns... A tad less ghoulish than the zombies. Nice middle ground.
Now we get REALLY Creepy with a VERY Scary Animated Halloween Prop!
Does it get much yuckier than spiders?
I have a thing about spiders. And it's not really a good thing. I'm afraid of them - so when I took THIS photo of a very live, very "animated" spider just before writing this part of my otherwise light-hearted article about scary animated Halloween props & decorations, I had to use the zoom feature on my camera.
I am told that we don't really have poisonous spiders in New Hampshire. But I don't take chances. These guys are BIG! And I give them their "space..."
But this sets the scene for my next idea...
Just as Your Guests Recover from Seeing the Zombie... ENTER THE REMOTE CONTROL BLACK WIDOW!!!! - Have this guy poised to scuttle in front of your guests on the
Of course you want to be sure no one can step on it! You'll need to have one of your helpers there to control this beast.
This is as far as I can go with this spider theme. I'm going to dream about spiders tonight... Anyway, this is a pretty good sized one - 8 x 9 inches oughta be enough!
And, just in case Remote Control Spiders aren't enough...
There's always roaches, snakes and rats!
Oh... can this get any grosser? If you haven't yet scared your potential trick-or-treaters away, throw a few more remote control things in their way! This is DEFINITELY a great animated Halloween prop. Gross Gross GROSS!
So, ya gotta really time this one right... make sure someone's behind a tree or bush so the unsuspecting trick-or-treater can't see them activate it.
Worse than seeing a rat, for me, is cockroaches. YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no way I would allow this thing anywhere near me. I can handle a field mouse. But cockroaches are an entirely different matter altogether. Serious yuckiness here...
Snakes creep me out no matter what. Even if they're fake. The only snakes I've seen where I live are what people say are harmless garden snakes. I don't care. I'm okay (sort of) if I see them out in the yard. But, when they somehow find their way into my basement, look out. Put your ear-plugs in because I'll be screaming.
Have Your Guests Made It To Your Door Yet? - Let's Creep 'em out with ROCKING GRANNY
She can be waiting either on your doorstep, or even on the side of the sidewalk after your guests have made it past the creepy-crawly things!
Comes with a CD of "Granny" making noises - "muttering" etc... You'll have to provide the CD player.
Just when you thought it couldn't be spookier! Imagine running into this gal?
OOH! OOH! ANOTHER IDEA!!!! Have her sitting in a well-lit window or on a porch...
PLEASE NOTE: The Rocking Chair is NOT included.
Who Better to GREET the Trick or Treaters at the Door than CREEPY CATHY! - (I almost didn't add this one... I'm a tad sensitive about my name being used this wa
I have another page dedicated to people with the name "Kathy" and I think I will NOT add this little scary animated halloween prop to it! Just too creepy!
Have this ANIMATED HAND in the Treats Bowl! - ha ha ha ha ha!
I can just imagine this sound-activated hand buried in a Trick-or-Treat Candy Bowl!
So, cover this up with candy, and then activate it just as you are about to offer the unsuspecting Trick-or-Treaters their choice of goodies from the bowl!
Imagine their faces...
And FINALLY! The epitome of Animated Halloween Props... - Is the One you ANIMATE YOURSELF!!!
So, at this point, we are assuming that your guests have made it up your driveway, through the maze of yucky critters on your sidewalk and stairs, and weren't scared off by the zombies and Granny - nor were they frightened off by the dismembered hand in the candy bowl.
At THIS point, just as the guests are turning around, you - who have had one of your hands hidden behind the door, move one of THESE guys up to your shoulder and say, "Oh, Baby Freddie (or name of your choice) would like to say Goodbye!"
What better way to end the visit??
Not sure I have enough coordination for this one, but I like it!
Who thinks this stuff up???
What's the Creepiest Animated Halloween Prop?
Personally, all of them creep me out...
What do you think was the scariest animated Halloween prop on this page?
