Previously a writer on Squidoo 2008- folded. I write about entertainment, crafts, writing, beauty and anything else that inspires me

is the eighth astrological sign in the Zodiac, originating from the constellation of Scorpius. In western astrology the sign is no longer aligned with the constellation as a result of the precession of the equinoxes. Scorpio is considered a "feminine", negative (introverted) sign. It is also considered a water sign and one of the four fixed signs. Traditionally, the planet Mars has been considered to be the ruler of Scorpio. Also, since its discovery, Pluto has been considered a modern ruler of this sign. As the eighth sign in the zodiac, Scorpio is associated with the astrological eighth house. Individuals born when the Sun is in this sign are considered Scorpio individuals. Under the tropical zodiac, the Sun enters Scorpio around October 23 and exits around November 22. Under the sidereal zodiac, it is currently there roughly from November 16 through December 15. The Sanskrit name of Scorpio in Hindu astrology is Vshcika.

The Zodiac - What's your sign say about you?

Scorpio scope

Scorpio (Oct 23 - Nov 21) The Addict- Scorpios are more inclined to get addicted or be obsessive compulsive than most other Signs. We are Self-Critical, Investigative, Tenacious, Protective, Unshockable, and have an Intense sense of Concentration & focus. we are an intense bunch in a variety of other ways as well. . We can be quite secretive though we love to hear your secrets & a TRUE Scorpio takes all Secrets to the grave. We Hold Grudges (though if you look at a Quote below not as long as the Dead) we are a Passionate, and Volitile bunch. Emotional, and though strong we can be sensitive even though we do not always show it. we can be Self-destructive, Ruthless, Overbearing,Vindictive, Insulting, intolerant & moody. Though we may come in colors of 'white' Red & black' one of those colors shoul be green as we can get quite jealous (& sometimes possessive) we do not like trusting strangers, and we are the hardest to earn respect from. We Can be Bossy and controlling at times and hardworking but like I said we can be quite passionate (& sometmes it turns into a volcano) which means we are more likely the 'workaholics' of the Zodiac. Scorpios like Mysteries, winning, being home in their 'Lair' activity & being NoticedWe are Talkative, argumentive & determined when we believe in something (HINT HINT). Scorpios best profession is a lawyer and great at it as well. We fight to the death (there's a reason for the term 'Scorpion Death Match) we can also be sadistic, cunning & very dangerous when wronged. Its said we cannot take a compliment & don't like too many, we don't like being analyzed or labled.

Orphius ~ Nov 29- December 17

The 13th sign of the zodiac which was dropped (like pluto was recently) way back, but was a standard constillation over 2000 years ago during the days of the ancient greeks. Oh maybe this is what i've been looking for on the time frame the change took place to drop it. The changes on the Constellation boundries that brought Phiuchus into theZodiac date from 1930 this is when the International Astonomical union adopted the current mapping of the night sky.

If they put this sign back in, it will make most if not all Scorpios Libra as the Scorpio constellation is only in the sky for a short amount of time (& if you can even see it from your part of the world).

Officially using the 13 sign (which to me is bogus as mine fits me too well) the dates are as follows for the signs

Capricorn-Jan 20- feb 16

Aquarius- Feb 16-March 11

Pisces-March 11-18

Aries-April 18-May 13

Taurus-May 13-June 21

Gemini-june 21-July 20

Cancer-July 20-August 10

Leo- August 10-Sept. 16

Virgo- Sept 16-October 30

Libra- October 30- November 23 (HELL TO NO!)

Scropio- Nov 23-Nov 29

Ophiuchus Nov 29- Dec 17

Sagittarius Dec 17-Jan 20

but no need to actually be concerned about the addition. The zodiac signs and dates by printed in the newspapers (and used by astrologers) have been way off the sun's position for years. They've been off for centuries. The signs correspond to the specific defined location in the sky

The Zodiac Immortal

What Do Vampires have to do with Scorpios you ask?

For one.. The way Vampires 'Connect' with the dark side of the human nature. That little touch of evil we all have inside us, and that dark side my friend is associated with scorpio as is our (once) ruling Planet Pluto. Mars has also been associated with Scorpio as well as the gods of war for our volitile nature and we are represented by Death in the Tarot.

If you look into Scorpio on the astrology side what its traits are as well as the usual vampire persona you will find it apparent that we are pretty much one in the same. Therefore the what i've dubbed as the "zodiac immortal'(C)

To start, we'll look at author Bram Stoker who was born November 8, 1847 (& I'm happy to find out is a fellow scorpio)

Bram Stoker showing 2 of scorpio's main traits being creative by writing dark stories. He produced the macabre novel Dracula . His penchant for writing weaved mainly of nightmares and dark fantiasies. The story of Dracula is said to be based on Romanian Prince Vlad Dracul (check out my vampire page if you want to learn more about him) who would stake those that have wronged him. Bram Stoker did not invent the vampire as there are a variety of legends & myth dating back to the ancient Greeks and Chinese! He was also not the first to write a vampire at the center of his novel's story, that honor belongs to Dr. John Polodori and Lord Byron, however Bram is the one to bring this multi cultural superstition to modern myth.

The Story of Dracula is a horror which (stoker) himself felt and why it touches us. In a Novemember Edition (2001?) of Dell Hororscope They say Stoker hs never been accused of being a first rate writer and that much of his fiction was published in the 'Penny dreadfuls'. THere have been many theories as the the source of Stoker's inspiration to write the Dracula novel one being a possible epidemic of Cholara in 1832. The Dell horrorscope magazine however say's its 'Scorpio' that inspired him as he is a 'double scorpio' as both the moon and sun was in scorpio around his time of birth and may have been in conjunction.

In the book there are many Scorpio themes in 'our' vampire like death & resurrection, which brings me to mention that another scorpio symbol is the Phoenix. The bird that bursts into flames when it dies to be resurrected from its own ashes (think Faukes fom Harry Potter) . There's also darkness, mystery, hypnotic power, dangerous obsession, brooding, supremely sensitive, and visceral. Dracula is above mortality and like scorpio is capable of the most perfect revenge. Both Vampires and scorpios have been known to be egotistical, being arrogant and intensely loyal.

Dracula still to this day has not gone out of 'style' perhaps the durability lies in his concept of thoroughly using most if not all of scorpio's dark qualities, and that those that do not have astrological claim over such traits to step into the scorpio underground and 'act out' those scorpio fantasies.

Did Bram Stoker create his Dracula character to express his Scorpio frustrations, then Lugosi with his unique intellect and sexuality was qualified to bring Dracula to life plus the accent is just one of the memorable aspects of his performance .

Bela Lugosi has scorppio representing in his horrorscope (he's born on the cusp, so he's an honorary Scorpio) he has both Mars & Mercury in the 8th house, which is Scorpio's natural house. With the strict censors of the time and never biting or anything else that might offend in those time he brought forth all the vampire scorpio traits as if almost possessed. Lugosi was a Libra sun sign, its genial and socially afinite qualities and his scrpio elements that made his Dracula so effective.

The Civility of Libra

+ the Suave predator of Scorpio

= "a killer with manners above reproach"

Libra and scorpio in a dance of refinement and death

Lugosi's Dracula securely wedged his representation of the vampire into our psyche, ths giving Stoker's representation of Scorpio a face.

Anne Rice in the 1970's was able to get into the Vampire and Scorpio Psyche by having Mercury ain corpio in close proximity with scorpio's ruling planet, Pluto when she was born. This gave her a mental grasp of the fascination and dread that comes with death and allows for her to see beyond the intellectual facade of a problem. The way she wrote her central character in Inteview with a Vampire with Louie's moral dilema: knowing it is wrong to kill, but must to survive. Along with his need to know more about his vampiric condition and his kind. With that she shows the vampire (like Scorpio) toned to uncover the hidden (we love secrets) and delve into the unknowable. Another Scorpio strengths and maybe one of the best: The inherrant ability to look at all the dark aspects of the human soul without flinching.

Rice also has venus in Scorpio but never mentions sex in her novels as the vampire need for blood and killing is a metaphor for sex being they have the power and their victims submit. Like Lugosi, & Stoker, Rice as well has Libra interacting with Scorpio. In the conflicts given to her characters who constantly defy the loner aspect and seek companionship (Vampires & Scorpios are normally loners)

So it seems as though my sign would as well be the sign of the vampire (and vice versa?) Do we need to include to long in the tooth incisors on the constellation? (actually I have a couple of Scorpio paperweights Their claws in ways can look like a set of very big fangs and in a way they are, they bring their prey to the actual fangs they eat with. From my stand point looking at the smaller one I have, Scorpio IS a vampire)

are you Tweet #ZodiacImmortal

Getting off of the subject of vampires, and on to Ancients... Norse God Odin being the god of death (and many other things) which means he would be the god for scorpios, but I see it another way. Look at how Thor weilds his hammer above his head, now look at how the scorpion's tail 'nails' into whatever it stings. The scorpion weild's its own hammer complete with nail. So shouldn't that make Thor the god of thunder (which I'm sure your apendage feels like when it stung by a scorpion. and where there's thunder there's usually lightning which i'm sure you see when you get struck by that stinger. So tell me with that explaination you cannot tell me Thor shouldn't also be at least one god if not THE god for scorpio

Pretty much anything Red or having to do with water can be considered a stone of Scorpio. I think I recall even seeing something about Bloodstone having to do with Scorpio once.

  • Best Day- Tuesday (but I think it more Thursday "Thors Day" as he looks like a scorpi when he weilds his hammer) or Wednsday aka Wodan which is Odin who being the all father, is also a symbol of death like our tarot card)
