Scribblenauts Unlimited

Updated on September 6, 2014

Scribblenauts Unlimited is one of my son's favorite games. I bought it for my son through the Nintendo e-shop option found in his 3DS, but it is also available for the Nintendo Wii U and as a PC game for any computer with Microsoft Windows. The cool thing about this Wii U version is that it includes an option for multiplayer and because of this, my son now wants me to get it for the Wii U too!

The Story & The Mission

The game, according to my son, is about a boy named Maxwell who has a magical notebook. In this magic notebook, anything that Maxwell writes comes to life! But, one day Maxwell and his sister Lily are sent off to explore the world and they come across a hungry, old man that asks them for something to eat. Using his magic notebook, Maxwell spawns an apple for the old man, but as a prank, he spawns a rotten apple. The old man was furious and casts a spell on his sister, Lily that slowly starts to turn her to stone.

Maxwell's mission is to try and save Lily before she turns to stone. To do this, the players help Maxwell by coming up with items and things to help Maxwell do good deeds for others, and helping others solve their problems. Every time Maxwell does something good, he gets to collect a "starite". He needs to collect as many starites as he can if he hopes to break the spell and save his sister!

Creative Juices!

This is a great game that gets kids creative juices flowing by tapping into their creative thinking to come up with combinations of adjectives and objects to solve all the different challenges that come along the way. My son enjoys reading and solving the challenges and his spelling has improved noticeably! Younger kids would enjoy it too, but may need some help. This would make a great gift for kids ages 10 and over.

Check out the 3DS version of the game, the latest game in the series, Scribblenauts Unmasked and the Wii U you'll want to have to play it. These would make great gifts!
