Costumes from The Simpsons (From Bart Simpson to Duff Man)
Here are costume ideas from The Simpsons! Dress up as a member of the Simpson family (Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie), or come as Duff Man and Krusty the Clown, who are also equally memorable. Have a sister, best friend, or even better - a twin? How about looking like Patty Bouvier and Selma Bouvier; you know, the twin sisters with that hoarse voice. The possibilities are endless!
With a movie and 24 seasons under its belt, The Simpsons is a widely known TV series so everyone will surely recognize (and love) your Simpson costume.
The Optional 1st Step: The Yellow Complexion - Bring on the Paint!
All the members of the Simpson Family, as well as most of the other characters, have a yellow complexion, so if you're going for complete accuracy, buy yourself some yellow body paint and face paint to coat yourself with! This is an *optional* step - even without the yellow skin, you will look noticeable as long as you buy the right clothes.
Cheat Tip 1: If you're uncomfortable with yellow paint smeared all over your body, you can choose to just do this on the face, then wear yellow opaque tights and yellow tight long sleeve shirts (or long gloves)
Cheat Tip 2: You can wear a Simpson mask and look exactly like the characters, which means no face paint will be needed.
Cheat Tip 3: You can wear a yellow body suit (no body paint and face paint required)
Paint your face with this non-toxic and kid-friendly paint
There are several ways to go about this:
1) You can buy a Homer Simpson costume set, which already includes a mask to make your face resemble Homer's
2) You can assemble your costume piece by piece, and buy pieces that you'd actually wear on normal days.
- For the balding hair, you can substitute it with a yellow swim cap which you can just draw on for the few strands of hair!
- To achieve Homer's beer belly, use a small pillow or a belly stuffer!
3) You can wear his work uniform top instead of the plain white top for a more elaborate costume
Possible Props: Donut or Duff "beer" can
This includes a jumpsuit, detachable belly pad, and a vinyl half-cap mask
Bring this as a prop - you know how Homer loves his donuts!
Not fond of wearing a mask? Then improvise! With a fabric marker, draw some lines on the swim cap to represent the few strands of hair Homer has, then wear this as your wig! The yellow matches that of the Simpsons
You can use this Duff can cooler over and over again so you never run out of Duff "beers"!
Another option is to wear Homer's work uniform. I love this shirt because it has that Springfield Nuclear Power ID as well as donut jelly stains
Marge Simpson's look is super recognizable - everyone remembers her towering blue hairdo! Her voice is quite unique too (good job voice actor, Julie Kavner!). The rest of her outfit includes the red chunky beaded necklace, the lime green dress, and red shoes.
Possible Props: a plush life-sized Maggie Simpson doll!
This is the necklace Marge always wears.
You can bring Maggie along with you for a great, cute prop!
To come as this mischievous character, all you need are simple clothes (red/orange top, blue shorts) and a spiky wig for his unusually spiky hair!
Possible props: Skateboard (lime green)
Other Variations: Bartman
Favorite lines (say these frequently during the costume party!): "Eat my shorts", "Ay, caramba!", and "Don't have a cow, man!"
This is a replica of Bart's skateboard - way cool! It even has that Orange stripe on the top and the addition of the Bart skull logo on the bottom just makes it more awesome
Lisa Simpson is the epitome of the intellectual overachiever. Her overall style is very similar to Marge's except in different colors (white beaded necklace and orange dress instead of her mom's red and green). There is no mask for Lisa (yet) so you need to improvise. I give some good alternatives below. You will need to dye some of them yellow; if you're using a synthetic wig, use fabric dye or permanent markers; human hair wigs need hair dyes.
Possible Props: Saxophone
I like this one. Not only is it already in the shade of yellow we need, it also has that cartoonic spike look to it. You will just need to cut off the "bangs" and sort of tame the inner layers of the wig a little
Bring a saxophone to look more like Lisa!
This is a great costume idea for babies, but for a fun, hilarious idea, why not dressing up an adult as Maggie Simpson, including the baby pacifier? Then, just wear a light blue dress that is a little loose-fitting so it looks like a footie OR even better, a slanket, a wearable blanket fleece - it's the perfect thing!
Props: Baby pacifier
Dress up as the Duffman - The Muscled Man Super Beverage Hero
Barry Duffman is the Simpson's version of Budweiser's Bud Man. Dressing up as this muscled dude is a riot, with his beer utility belt and cape. Be sure to say "Oh, yeah!" when you enter the room of your party

The Floating Timeline
Have you ever wondered why, after 24 seasons, everyone still looks the same and nobody has aged? This is because the show is set on a floating timeline, so they're eternally stuck in the same age. Do you think this is a great idea or would you be interested in seeing Maggie sans the pacifier, and Bart going to work?
Do you like the Floating Timeline Concept?
Yes! Keep them as they are now, they're more memorable that way!
