st. Valentines Day. It is all about the Love baby!

I always like to put the saint on to it. Makes me laugh.
Whats' love got to do with it?
There are a bunch of St. Valentines. That is cool. It is a truly “religious” holiday. By that I mean one with no connection with scripture, theology or spirituality – just something fun for a church. And there is also the “religion” of consumerism that is well prayed to on that day.
For years now I have given our congregation a sermon on Love on the Sunday closest. Our attendance is very large on that day for us. (probably many come to hope I slip up and say something inappropriate about sex ;-) Actually for me it is a wonderful spiritual day. It is a day that people are mostly likely to speak of Love. Many believe we are all saints. This day lets us show the truth.
So I laugh at the notion of it being a day named for a saint. But I think it is one of the most spiritual holidays that we celebrate. The danged blitz of guilt oriented advertising and buying is most shameful. But I do not care because it is centered on Love.
Have you ever just crawled in a cold bed and brought the covers up. And found yourself, all giddy with the feeling that you are loved? If not do it.
Cards are cool because the generally focus on hearts. I would prefer if people lived a lot more by focusing on what their “heart” tells them. There is something called a heart chakra. And I think it is dandy to think that is where Love resides, although it clearly is not imprisoned there. The favorite lesson I have taught all my kids and one we sing in the car is: Love, love the magical thing, the more you give the more you bring. It is the most special contradiction to: You cannot have your cake and eat it too. Because in fact the more you eat of the cake of love the larger it gets.
I believe there are two special things to do on this great day. Take time to sit still meditate and be grateful for all the love you get, and then feel the power of all the love you can give.
Who ever told you that loving your self is ego or narcissism, tell them to go to Hell
My youngest is bugging me to death right now --- Oh what a sweet death that is!
If you have a hard time getting into the spirit of the day, that is understandable. Especially if you are feeling loveless because you got dumped between Christmas and New Years. I would venture to say that most of the time we feel loveless we are not loving ourselves. See where I am going here – I like it and it is good for you. Buy yourself that gift. Love yourself first and the rest will flow like a river. If you do that one thing, your love will grow, and as it grows you will need to give some away and what a beautiful gift that is to give the world.
Know this, I feel your love. I believe it connects all human beings, and a whole lot of animals. Try it you’ll like it and Just do it.

Too much fun, I just got my box of one hundred. I got the homeless shelter, the downtown execs and a middle school. I will take my boy with me,,,,, Love is so much fun!
