A great way to embody the Steampunk style is to find the just-right outerwear to show your off unique personality.

Take a look at some of the great Steampunk dresses we have collected here for your enjoyment.

What are the Best Fabrics for an Authentic Steampunk Outfit?

There are those who are sticklers for authenticity that believe you have to use the materials that were available in the late 18th century. While brass, copper, and leather are a good idea, confining yourself to using cotton may cause some problems, as it doesn't breathe as well as some of the modern fabrics.

For those are can settle for looks over style, pleather, PVC and some of the stretch fabrics available may be the way to go. You have to keep in mind how functional you need the outfit to be versus your desire for historical accuracy.

The closer to the Victorian era you stay, the better. Sometimes this can be made easier by making your own clothing. There are tons of patterns available for making your own authentic outfits, which is what Steampunk is all about - creativity and individualism.

Leather and Lace Make Steampunk Great

There are some that shun weapons and the like, but in doing so they may cut themselves out of a lot of the Steampunk genre, including the Wild West and Airship Pirate sub-cultures.

Corsets are a big part of the female side of the Steampunk movement. Some gals like to wear a corset on the outside of their outfits, while others stay true to the ideals of the corset, and would never think of doing such a thing. Lucky for both schools, there is plenty of room for either preference.

Leather and lace are 2 big items for female Steampunkers, although you may find some men's wear that also makes use of both mediums. In either case, a little lace is better than a lot.

I hope the answer is Steampunk, because I don't really care for Goth.

I adore the Victorian look and in some ways it never really went out of fashion.
