Stocking Holders - No Fireplace Mantel? No Problem!

Updated on October 8, 2013

Stocking Holders -- Stands, Trees and Racks

For those of us without fireplaces, stocking holders are still available. Kids can be convinced that Santa knows how to get around the "no chimney" issue because he's resourceful. However, without a mantel, where will they hang their stocking so Santa can fill them?

Hang them on stocking holder stands, trees or racks, of course! Below is a nice collection of stand stocking holders that the kids will love. Find one that fits with your Christmas decorating style and you'll be ready for Santa this Christmas Eve!

Holly Wreath Stocking Holder

"The Stockings were Hung..." Wall Hanger by Terry's Villiage

This adorable wall hanger reminds us to hang the stockings in plain sight for Santa!

This wooden Christmas stocking holder features the reindeer pulling Santa and his sleigh on a moonlight Christmas eve.

Hang it on the wall near the tree, in the entry way or family room -- anywhere you want so Santa can fill those stockings even without a fireplace mantel! Holds up to 6 stockings.

Metal Stocking Holder - Stocking Holders for those without a Mantel

Metal Stocking Hanger With Heart Finial
Metal Stocking Hanger With Heart Finial

This black metal stocking holder is perfect for displaying your stockings without a mantel or fireplace. Hang them as part of the decor and then Christmas morning, re-hang them filled by Santa! The heart shaped finial means it can be used beyond the holiday season for hanging mittens, gloves and scarves.

This little guy will make your season merry and bright with or without a fireplace! He stands approximately 41" tall and can hold up to 6 stockings!

Deciphering the Poem

It says:

"The stockings were hung by the chimney with care..."

Not "on" the chimney or mantel but "by" the chimney.

You can use a stand to hang the stockings. Case closed!

Snowman Christmas Stocking Holder

This happy snowman is 53" tall and holds up to 6 stockings. Made of metal, he will last for years to come.

Stocking holder trees, stands and racks are freestanding. They won't damage the wall or woodwork like a nail, pushpin or hook will. They are a wonderful alternative whether you have a fireplace mantel or not.

Santa Christmas Stocking Tree Hanger

This Santa stocking holder holds up to 4 stockings and stands almost 6 feet tall! His plush mustache and bells that jingle will be a real treat for the kiddos.

5 Ideas for Hanging Stockings without a Mantel

  1. If you have a staircase railing, tie them to the banister with a ribbon.
  2. Use traditional stocking holders on a counter or piece of furniture like a bookcase or sofa table that's close to the tree.
  3. Buy or make a wood wall plaque and use peg hooks the stockings can hang from.
  4. Lay the stockings under the Christmas tree, awaiting Santa. Christmas morning, lay them on top of the brightly wrapped packages.
  5. Hang them from the back of dining room chairs using ribbon.

No but I like the idea. Now if I can just come up with a "Santa missed the chimney" story.

What a great idea, and they looks so nice! I thought it was funny, though, most of the pics show them standing next to fireplaces...with mantels!! haha! Still, they would look so nice next to the tree! We hang ours on the stairs rails and they look pretty good there, too, under the garland.

I'd never heard of that before. But I guess not everyone has a mantel. And your read of the wording - "by the chimney" is so right.

Cute ideas, Mandee! Stockings are one of the best parts of opening Christmas presents. I like these holders.

This is a good idea, my family lived in an apartment for one Christmas where there was no fireplace. We just placed the stockings under the tree, this would have been nice.

You did a great job of deciphering the Christmas poem! So much so that I am convinced to have a stocking holder tree for Christmas! I also like the idea of a wall plaque with pegs for the stockings as it can be used for keeping the Spirit of Christmas alive year-round by re-stuffing the stocking throughout the year.

We have a fireplace but we have no mantel, so a stocking tree is just perfect to stand on the hearth. I love that snowman tree. That would be perfect!

These are really cool stocking holders! I love the idea of being able to hang stocking somewhere besides a mantle. Really awesome!
