Soldiers Love Swiss Colony Gift Sets - Send one to a Soldier this Easter

Updated on October 22, 2013

Send a Little Reminder of Home. We all Enjoyed Swiss Colony, even if just Stationed in the USA

I can say for a fact; soldiers love Swiss Colony Gift Baskets.

In Saudi Arabia and Iraq, we loved to receive care packages and I, as well as many other soldiers, loved the gifts and little things that reminded us of home.

A very special treat were the Swiss Colony gift baskets and sets. The cheeses were great and the meat was also good. It was always much better than the meals served there and I can remember times when I skipped the chow hall and just ate my gift basket meat and cheese.

Swiss Colony also makes chocolate gift sets but they do not make it as the chocolate melts before it arrives.

This is my little glimpse of nostalgia during the most difficult time of my life. Nothing is better than Swiss Colony during the holidays and I still enjoy eating them.

Please vote on your favorites and let me know all about your experiences with Swiss Colony.

You can also find ways to send a care package to a soldier as I have included an address below.

My Experience with Swiss Colony during my time in Desert Storm

What can you do to help today's soldiers?

I was in Operation Desert Storm and during the early years in Saudi Arabia and Iraq, we did not have the creature comforts that many soldiers have over there today.

Our food consisted of chicken and chicken and chicken. I remember taking a trip to Riyadh once and during a gasoline stop, they were serving hamburgers. These were my first hamburgers in months and I will always remember the smell and taste of them.

One of my fondest memories was receiving a Swiss Colony Gift Basket with summer sausage and cheese. We would sit around and share by taking crackers out of our packaged meals and covering them with a slice of summer sausage and cheese. We would close our eyes and imagine we were eating pizza. It is crazy what you can imagine but we really could taste it. Many months later, I did get a pizza in Riyadh, but it was served with a fake pepperoni because at the time, beef was not allowed to be mailed in.

Soldiers everywhere love Swiss Colony. You can still mail packages to Afghanistan and if you know the soldier, this is a special treat. Little do people know that many soldiers do not have friends or families so they loved getting something from someone. When I came home, I tried to visit people who tried to make me feel at home while I was in combat.

If you want to send a package with Swiss Colony or anywhere else, I have included some information. There are several links below where you can contact someone about mailing items. I have even provided an address for US Marines that are deployed.

Almost every State or region has a military base. You can also contact them and drop off packages during the Holiday Season.

God Bless everyone for making the life of a soldier special during Valentine's Day.

Cheese is my favorite and this is the set for the big man.

This has large blocks of meat and cheese and these items would almost be enough for a whole military party. Makes my mouth water to think about it.

A little smaller than the six bar set, this is a way to give to the soldiers if you are on a tighter budget.

A nice mixture of meat and cheese. Who can ask for anything else?

I remember when my brother was overseas during the Vietnam War era. Sure wish we could have sent him a Swiss Colonies package then. He would have loved that.

Absolutely the best gift guide I've read! Swiss Colony is a great company, and the perfect gift for sending overseas. I also like that you used photos here that show Operation Gratitude. It's a great organization that supports our troops. Thank you so much for your service, and this article.

I always enjoyed care packages when stationed away from the family during the holidays. It was fun sitting around sampling what other families sent.

Wonderful lens... Although in South Africa I am a member of Soldier's Angels who also send care packages to the troops... I think even the smallest gift from home is a welcome sight. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Blessed by a Squid Angel x

Wow this is such a great program and I appreciate you sharing the information about Swiss Colony Gift Sets and the operation gratitude. It is such a heartwarming thing to do, especially since the solders do so much for us by risking their lives each day out in the field.
