Thank You Gift Ideas - When More than a Note is Needed

Updated on April 28, 2015

More than a note.

Sometimes someone does something for you that is so kind or generous or important that you feel you want to thank them with more than just a note.

When their generosity really means a lot to you, you want to acknowledge it.

Here are a few unique and thoughtful ways to show them just how much you appreciate what they've done for you.

A hand-picked gift basket

You can fill a gift basket with items you hand-select based on the recipient's tastes. If he's a coffee lover, send all coffee themed items, etc.

There's no end to the items you can include in a gift basket. Just be sure to choose high end products. Deliver it yourself if at all possible so that it really shows your thanks. Of course, you can also opt to send something via courier or shipping.

Select from hundreds of gift baskets online. Just be sure you choose a reputable company so there are no unpleasant surprises. Many companies offer to deliver your basket the same day. If you use someone with a local branch, they can often get it there in a matter of hours.

Gift baskets featured above can be found at All About Gifts & Baskets

A Floral Arrangement

It's appropriate to send flowers to thank someone you know well.

Make it a cheerful mixed arrangement in a festive container. This is not the time to send a dozen long stemmed roses. A thank you arrangement is more friendly and less formal then long stems.

You want to be sure to include a card or floral pick that says thank you so they'll know why they've received your flowers. It's not appropriate to send flowers to someone's office if you don't know them well or if your relationship is purely business only. Flowers are more for family or friends. Your gesture may embarrass them at the office and seem inappropriate.

Foods of all Kinds

Everyone loves getting gourmet food gifts! Send over a tin of gourmet desserts like brownies, cookies, muffins and more. You can order them online and have them shipped. Or you can pick them up at a bakery and deliver them yourself.

If an entire team has worked for you or done something out of the ordinary, be sure there are enough treats for everyone. Be creative with your choice. Send a cookie bouquet or individual high-end pastries or coffee cakes.

If you are sending them to someone's home, be sure to find out if they're going to be home as you don't want your gift left on the porch to spoil if they are away on vacation.

A Well-chosen Gift Certificate

While it's okay to send someone a gift card from a local coffee shop or store to thank them, you'll want to be sure you hand select the card. Just any old card won't do.

You're better off going with a printed or hand-written certificate from a high-end restaurant where your recipient can go for a night out. A plastic gift card is still nice if it's to a place that the recipient often frequents. But it wouldn't be appropriate for a boss or higher up. Coworker to coworker would be fine. And it's certainly fine for family. But in a more professional situation, go for a fine dining certificate instead of a generic plastic retail gift card.

Thank You

When you put in extra effort to show someone how much their generosity meant to you, you're thanking them in the very best way.

No matter what you select, you're taking the time to acknowledge what they've done and showing that you really appreciate it.

What is your favorite way to say "thanks"?

Why not a gift and a note? I love to buy or make my own thank you gifts and then attach a hand-written thank you card. You have some great ideas here.

I like the thought of being able to send cookies online. I never really have a lot of time to bake so it's easier that way and then I also know that I don't have to deal with postage or packaging or anything like that.

I love to bake cookies so I'll slip in a handwritten note and deliver a dozen fresh from the oven when someone has done something great for me!
