Thanksgiving Board Books For Children

Thanksgiving is not just a time of family and celebration of blessings, but also a time for teaching your children about the joys of being thankful. The entire holiday is a "teachable moment", and one that you can begin at a young age by sharing stories of thankfulness and gratitude with the kids in your life. As you reflect upon your Thanksgiving traditions, don't overlook engaging the youngest members at your table in an attitude of gratitude!

Below you will find a carefully curated list of the best Thanksgiving board books for children. These board books are durable and perfect for tiny handles and drooling mouths, in addition to being wonderful stories of the Thanksgiving season told in a way that kids can related to and understand. Give one as a Thanksgiving morning gift to keep the kids entertained as you work in the kitchen, or create a new family tradition by having grandma or grandpa read one after dinner!

What Is Thanksgiving? by Michelle Adams

This sweet book is my favorite board book for Thanksgiving, and I have given it as a gift many times, especially for baby's first Thanksgiving. Michelle Adams takes readers through the history and traditions of Thanksgiving in poetic rhymes, and helps to explain the true meaning of Thanksgiving - being thankful! This makes a nice and short read while at the dinner table, before the meal starts.

Five Silly Turkeys by Salina Yoon

This is a perfect book for babies who love sound! There are crinkly sounding fabric "turkey feathers" attached to the board book, which never fails to entertain the kids I know. The story itself follows the adventures of five silly turkeys, and is a great way to teach counting and numbers too! This book is great because it grows with the kids - babies like the sensory features, and toddlers and preschoolers will enjoy the counting and rhymes as the get older. A book to read every year!

Biscuit Is Thankful by Alyssa Satin Capucilli

This cute story follows the popular little yellow puppy Biscuit as he reflects on all the things he is thankful for this year. If your kids are familiar with - and like, fanatics of - the ever popular Biscuit series by Alyssa Satin Capucilli, this is a must-own!

Corduroy's Thanksgiving by Lisa McCue/ Don Freeman

Everyone remembers the adorable Corduroy from their own childhoods - now you can share the loveable little bear with a new generation with this Thanksgiving themed book. The story tells of Corduroy's Thanksgiving dinner with his friends and all they are thankful for, and will please both new fans as well as adults who remember Corduroy fondly from their own childhoods! A great book for grandparents to read to their grandchildren!

My Thanksgiving Prayer by Crystal Bowman

This lovely book is a way to get young children involved in your Thanksgiving prayers and blessings on a level that they can understand. Bowman's sweet poetic verses depict the many reasons to be thankful for God's blessings. Perfect for reading before dinner, at bedtime leading up to Thanksgiving, or with a group at a storytime at school or church. This is a great book to keep kids occupied in the Church pews too!
