The Norse God of Thunder!

From the comics to the silver screen, Thor is the latest superhero to become the next hottest Halloween costume! Featured in the 2011 film, Thor, he will next be seen teaming up in 2012's The Avengers alongside Iron Man and Captain America! Grab your winged helmet and the hammer Mjolnir and suit up for Halloween this year as the mighty god of thunder, Thor!

Marvel Comics' Thor

The Norse Avenger

Debuting in issue #83 of Journey into Mystery, Thor was created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby. The character was based off the Norse mythological god of thunder, Thor. The Marvel Comics version followed the story of Donald Blake, a disabled medical student who transforms into Thor after discovering the hammer Mjolnir while on vacation in Norway.

Leading a double life, as a doctor in private practice and as a crime fighting protector, Thor protects Earth from his stepbrother Loki, the Absorbing Man, the Wrecker, and the Destroyer among others.

Eventually Thor would join with the Avengers, fall in love with his nurse Jane Foster and lose her, discover his mother to be Gaea, and rebuild Asgard in Oklahoma.

Thor

The 2011 Marvel Film

In the Marvel Studios film, Thor finds himself cast from Asgard and sent to Earth to learn humility, after attacking the Frost Giants of Jotunheim against the wishes of his father, Odin. Also sent to Earth is the hammer Mjolnir, the source of Thor's powers. Landing in New Mexico, Thor finds himself befriended by astrophysicist Jane Foster and her team members. He immediately begins to search for the Mjolnir but his attempts to recover the hammer are thwarted by a spell cast by Odin.

Loki, Thor's adopted step-brother is meanwhile creating chaos and havoc in Asgard. After Odin falls into the deep Odinsleep, the Frost Giants plot an attack on Asgard. Escaping to Earth to find Thor, the Warriors Three and Sif discover their friend is a changed man. Thor, now in possession of the Mjolnir and his powers, defeats the Destroyer and returns to save Asgard from the Frost Giants.

The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins and Stellan Skarsgård and was directed by Kenneth Branagh. It is part of the Marvel Universe series, following Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, and Captain America: The First Avenger. The films are building towards 2012's The Avengers.

Thor

Son of Odin, God of Thunder

The mighty and powerful son of Odin and Gaea, at first Thor is arrogant and hot-tempered. After learning a lesson in humility and compassion, Thor realizes there is more to life then fighting and warfare. With the mighty hammer Mjolnir he is virtually indestructible.

After defeating the Destroyer and returning to Asgard to set things right, Thor finds himself cut off from earth after the destruction of the Bifröst but will soon be seen again in the 2012 film The Avengers.

Thor's costume is that of a warrior, with medals of valor displayed on the chest piece. He wears a long red cape, black boots, and a winged helmet.

Thor is portrayed by actor Chris Hemsworth in the 2011 and 2012 films.

Mjolnir

Thor's Hammer

"Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor."

The hammer was created by a dwarf named Eitri, forged from a dying star in an enchanted forge, and named Mjolnir.

No living being may lift the hammer unless deemed worthy. Once thrown, the hammer returns to the exact spot. It also returns to Thor when he summons it. The Mjolnir will summon the elements of a storm when its handle is stamped twice upon the ground.

The Mjolnir is near-indestructible.

Loki

Adopted Son of Odin, Half Brother to Thor

The adopted son of Odin, Loki is raised beside Thor as his brother. Gifted in magic, trickery, and deception, Loki discovers his true identity and parentage throughout the course of the 2011 film.

Bringing about an attack as well as the near destruction of Asgard, Loki is not defeated by Thor but instead chooses to fall into the abyss after the Bifröst Bridge is destroyed.

Loki wears warriors clothing in grays, greens, and golds. He has a green cape and a helmet with large, curved horns.

Loki is portrayed by Tom Hiddleston in the 2011 and 2012 films.

Sif

Asgardian Defender and Thor's Friend

The childhood friend of Thor, Sif is the most accomplished female warrior in Asgard. Torn between her allegiance to Thor as well as her duty to Odin, Sif none the less accompanies Thor to Jotunheim. After Thor is cast out of Asgard, Sif and the Warriors Three do their best to try to stop Loki. Eventually they make it to Earth and bring Thor back to Asgard just in time.

An accomplished swords woman and fighter, Sif wears a fighting outfit in gold and burgundy.

Sif is portrayed by Jaimie Alexander in the 2011 film.
