Top 5 Festivus Gifts for 2014
Happy Festivus 2014!
Festivus is a parody holiday celebrated on December 23rd each year. Writer Dan O'Keefe introduced the idea to the world through a 1993 Seinfeld episode titled "The Strike". Festivus festivities include the "Airing of Grievances" whereby each member of the family discusses things others have done that year to disappoint them, the "Festivus Pole" which is an aluminum pole taking place of the traditional Christmas Tree, and "Feats of Strength" wherein the head of the household must be wrestled and pinned to the ground to end the holiday dinner.
Though gift giving and consumerism are generally frowned upon by those who celebrate Festivus, I've compiled a few fun Festivus gifts which will surprise and delight even the most ardent of Festivus fans.
[#5] Shiny Festivus Pole Gift Set - You can't celebrate Festivus without the Festivus pole!
This collectible 9" Festivus Pole gift set comes complete with three 5x7" greeting cards for airing your grievances! Constructed from pure aluminum, this pole stands atop a stunning wooden base - perfect for your Festivus decoration needs!
[#4] Vandelay Industries T-Shirt - Importing. Exporting. Fine Latex Goods.
In Season 3, Episode 34, George Costanza claims that he interviewed at a company called "Vandelay Industries" in order to continue receiving his unemployment benefits.
George gives the unemployment office the phone number of Jerry's apartment, and whenever Jerry answers the phone, he has to pretend he's Vandelay Industries.
The phone rings again and again, and it's never the unemployment office.
Then, eventually, Kramer (who is not aware of the ruse) picks up the phone, and tells the unemployment office that they're way off. George comes running out of the bathroom screaming "Vandelay! Say Vandelay!" and trips to the ground with his pants down.
To this, Jerry retorts "And you want to be my latex salesman."
Though this is not directly related to Festivus, it is a perfect gift for any Seinfeld fan.
[#3] Scene It? Seinfeld Deluxe Edition - So You Think You Know Seinfeld?
Whether for the casual Seinfeld fan or for the dedicated Seinfeld connoisseur, Scene It? Seinfeld Deluxe Edition is a gift which will bring smiles to the faces of all who play it.
Complete with memorable scenes and trivia from all nine seasons, the game is sure to have you reminiscing and rolling on the floor laughing within the first few rolls of the dice.
Scene It? Seinfeld Deluxe Edition makes great fun for the whole family, but be warned: the hilarity of this game will undoubtedly cut into the seriousness of Festivus, so it is highly recommended that you play it only AFTER the Festivus dinner and the Feats of Strength.
