Top 10 Nontraditional Christmas Gifts

Updated on February 27, 2014

Christmas is coming.

Christmas is a time of receiving and giving. There is nothing better in the world than the happy look in the face of person who just received a nice present from you. Best presents are not that ones the most expensive, but these made or bought with love. And a good idea is often the most important thing about choosing the right gift. So, there is a guide to choose some nice, interesting but also nontraditional gifts for your close ones.

1: The Hobbit costume

For fantasy lovers and kids...

Buying a costume is not really a typical Christmas gift, but this year we have an excellent opportunity with The Hobbit movie coming to cinemas these days. This is perfect gift for geeks and kids. I think I will buy one myself ...because I am a huge fan!

Hobbit costumes on Amazon - You can buy one right now!

2: Bubble blower

Great for kids, great for parties.

This one is very funny, suitable for kids and also usable on crazy parties. You can use this bubble machines whole year and your kids will love it. There are many shapes, sizes and prices.

3: Poetry

For young people who seek calm ...

Book is one of often used Christmas presents. I received a lot of books in my life myself. But poetry, that's different story. Today just a few of us read poetry. So I've collected some tips on poetry books especially for young people. Enjoy!

What about buying some poetry right now?

Try to think about it and maybe you will realize, that there is something special you can do for someone around you. And that is my suggestion of the best Christmas present.

4: Name a star

Somewhat romantic...

This one is really interesting. It is not something you can touch, but it can be very surprising and romantic gift. You give a certificate which allows user to officially name a star! You will probably not be able to see YOUR star on the sky, but you know it is somewhere there...

5: Giant gummy bear

Yammy

Some people like to find something tasty or sweet inside their gift. Why not to make it also funny, for example as other gift for kids or as a gift for whole family. Giant gummy bear seems wonderful!

6: AntWorks

Fascination by life.

This is something. You can buy special Ant Works, made by glass filled with special substance and plant live ants there. They will eat the substance and explore new territories and dig and dig. Great for kids as a pet, because you don't need to take any care of this thing, also a nice interesting decoration. This is really nontraditional, but very interesting. Don't forget to buy ants, they are sold separately usually.

7: Blank photo album

It may seem little bit strange to give someone a blank photo album, but it is a very good present for those who shoot photos a lot. But my idea is a little bit different. Thy to give photo album someone as a way to encourage him or her to actually start taking some photos. Add a personal message like "hope it is big enough for the photos of your little baby". They will be very glad after some years that this gift pushed them to take photos.

8: Plant seeds

For a gardener...

It is not very usual gift, but some people are very enthusiastic about growing things and gardening. It might be a great idea to give them some unusual seeds of exotic plants. They will enjoy trying to make them grow! Just be sure to choose those suitable for your climatic conditions.

9: Handmade

I mean by you.

This is an excellent idea and it might not be a nontraditional one, but still there is not a lot of people who want to invest their time and efforts to create some nice present themselves. It is pity, there are such a great opportunities. You can buy a lot of stuff to make it easier for you. There are creative kits and stuff like this. It is also a good idea to make something with your kids as a present for other parent or for grandparents.

10: Nothing special

Just spread the love

This should be a very traditional thing about the Christmas, but i think it is becoming more and more nontraditional. Christmas is a time when we should spread love around us even more than usually. This is a good time to invite your lonely neighbor for a dinner or to help your grandaunt prepare something, because you normally don't have time. It is good to calm down, Christmas should not be about stress and shopping, it should be about family, love, and being together. Try to think about it and maybe you will realize, that there is something special you can do for someone around you. And that is my suggestion of the best Christmas present.

I've always wanted to have an "ant farm" ever since I was a kid... I do keep honeybees, but it's not quite so easy to watch them at work as it would be to watch ants in the Ant Works units. What a cool gift, on a list of cool gifts! Good work, RocketSquid. :-)
