Updated on November 12, 2013

Even though it is thought that men are hard to shop for, all it really takes is knowing who he is and what he likes. If you do not know all the men on your holiday gift very well this may be easier said than done. To get you started, here you will find some ideas that will fit with most any man on your list this year.

The Man You Don’t Know

By the man you don’t know, I mean the man whom you are not all that familiar with personality wise. This may be your boyfriend’s best friend, your brother’s roommate, your dad’s business partner, etc. If you have a man like this on your list you may do best by giving a gift basket of some sort. Don’t go for scents since that is pretty personal thing. Try a food item basket like sausage and cheese or coffee or tea. This situation is also a good one for the gift card gift. If you are getting a gift for someone you don’t know well, anything you do will be received as a nice and thoughtful gesture.

The Car Man

Men who love cars are easy to please when it comes to gifts. Get him a model of his favorite car; either one he can build and paint himself or one that is already together. You can also go with an item for the car such as seat covers or floor mats. If he has a favorite model car, as most men do, consider a book about the history of the specific car. For instance, if he is a mustang lover you can get him a book filled with the history or every make and model of the car.

The Family Man

For the family man on your holiday list, think along the lines of something he can enjoy with his wife and/or kids. Some good ideas here are board games, family movies, gift certificates for family friendly restaurants or passes to a theme park. Men who have their family at the top of their priority list will really appreciate that you thought of his family when getting his gift.

The Jock Man

Not all men enjoy sports, but for those who do, a sporty Christmas gift will hit the spot! If he plays sports getting him new equipment will be well received. For instance, if he is a golf enthusiast why not get him a new golf club or pay for a tee time at his favorite course? If he watching sports you can get tickets to a local game or a subscription to a sporting magazine or a sporting event television channel. Think of how pleased a football fan would be with a year subscription to the NFL Sunday Ticket of Direct TV!

The Gadget Man

Gadgets come in all shapes, sizes and categories. Figure out where his interests lie and there is sure to be a gadget to match up with his interests. Things such as tablets, remote control items, and high tech watches that tell the time all over the world and perform other odd yet amazing feats will be something the gadget man will love finding under the tree this year!

The Outdoors Man

Is the man you’re shopping for the rugged outdoor type? If so you need not worry about finding a great gift. There are so many things that he can enjoy outside so find out his thing and you will be golden! Is he a camper? If so a new tent, cook stove, or sleeping bag may be just the ticket. If he likes to hike then perhaps a new pair of hiking boots, a canteen or a back pack may be what he would like. Once you know his forte then you should have no trouble finding him a great gift!

The Metrosexual Man

For the metrosexual man you simply need to think like a woman. A man with this type of personality will appreciate anything that makes him look and feel good. Some good gift ideas for this category include clothing (fashionable clothing), hair products, scents and spa treatments such as massages, manicures and pedicures. The metrosexual man likes to look his best at all times so anything that will help him do this is an excellent gift idea.

The Hobbyist Man

Most every man has a hobby, so find out what his is and find a gift that matches well with it! For example, for a man who enjoys building wooden craft items get a wood burning set, tools to help with building, etc. For the man whose hobby is collecting specific items (stamps, baseball cards, etc.) you can get them a missing link from their collection or a book about how to collect or about the item they collect. Finding a gift for a hobbyist is not very hard to do once you know what their hobby is. If you are still having a hard time coming up with the right gift, try a gift card from a home improvement store such as Lowes or Home Depot.

The Griller Man

The man who loves to cook outdoors is very easy to please when it comes to giving gifts. For the meat man in your life, go for a set of grilling tools that puts his current set to shame. You can also go with a cook book so he can experiment with his dishes! One more idea is a few good slabs of meat. Sure it sounds strange but for this type of man, meat is just what the griller ordered!

The Impossible Man

If there is a man on your list that you just do not know what type of gift to get for you can never go wrong with a gift card. If you are to the point where you do not even know what type of card to get him, go with a prepaid card to a popular store such a Kohl’s or Wal-Mart. There is no shame in letting him choose the gift you get for him!

Men are usually not too hard to please, even the types who are like closed books. Just remember that as long as you have given it a good deal of thought and put your heart into it, it will not matter what you get so long as it is given with the spirit of it was meant to be given-the holiday spirit!
