Traditions - Deviled Eggs

Updated on July 4, 2015

Deviled Eggs - Yummy!

Summertime and the picnics are coming! Do you know where your deviled egg recipe is? Don't have a deviled egg recipe? Come on into my lens and I'll hook you up with some of the countries leading chef's and their deviled egg recipes.

(Did you know that deviled eggs can also be called "stuffed eggs"?)

Tradition!

Deviled eggs are simple food. Whenever we have a potluck dinner to attend, I bring deviled eggs. I am guaranteed to take home an empty plate! Deviled eggs are simple enough that you can have your children help you make them. This is a recipe that everyone can help with at almost any age! I can now have my oldest (19!) make them from start to finish! We also have deviled eggs with all of our holiday meals.

Deviled Egg Trays!

My recipe originated from the Better Homes & Garden cookbook. I have "tweaked" it over the years and now I don't measure anything. I just "splash and dash". I do a lot of taste testing to get the balance of flavors just right.

Ingredients

  • 6 hard-cooked eggs
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise or salad dressing
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Halve hard-cooked eggs lengthwise; remove yolks and mash with a fork. Stir in mayonnaise, vinegar, mustard, and 1/8 teaspoon salt. Stuff egg whites with yolk mixture. Garnish with paprika or parsley, if desired. Makes 12 servings.
  2. My Modification:
  3. Substitute/add Dijon mustard - gives it a little more "kick"

One of my absolute favorite things to eat. I consider it a personal failing if any deviled eggs go home with their maker at the end of a potluck meal.

You are right, there will never be any deviled egg leftovers. As a matter of fact, they might actually cause a riot...nicely done lens; blessed by a Squid Angel. You should submit your lens to some food groups, like Culinary Favorites From A to Z!

Classic dish. I just made a ton of them with Easter eggs. Am going to add one of those platters to my wish list, as serving them is the one challenge involved ;) I use mustard, mustard powder, mayo, and a little pepper--and sprinkle with paprika. Need to try with some vinegar, per your advice!
