Plan A Birthday Party for Twins

Updated on April 5, 2013

Birthdays Times Two (or three, or four, or more)

Planning a birthday party for twins can be a challenge. You want to make each child feel like a special individual, while celebrating the fact they were born on the same day. I had a set of twins for my best friends growing up. I was always fascinated when their birthday came around about how they celebrated it together!

Two Peas in a Pod is a popular theme for a twin's birthday party, or baby shower, but you can go with other themes as well, or even multiple themes at the same party to fit both child's interest. Involve your twins in the planning and they're sure to be pleased with the results.

Thing 1 and Thing 2 can be another fun party idea for twins, add in a little more Dr. Seuss and you've got a complete party theme!

Twins Birthday Party Invitations

You'll want your twin's birthday party invitations to be as unique as your children. eBay sellers have some printable and customizable invitations that would be perfect for your birthday party!

Make sure you order your invitations several weeks in advance. Your party invitations should be mailed out a couple weeks before your party date. It's always better to mail out your invitations than to allow your child to take them to school. Some schools won't allow them to be passed out, and even if they do the children who aren't invited could be upset. If you mail them to the house, the parents are also more likely to see the invitations.

Twins First Birthday Party Supplies

One of my favorite party themes for twins is two peas in a pod. I have a couple best friends who are twins, and this theme fits them to a T. They are definitely two peas in a pod! This would be a fun party theme for twins rather they are boys or girls.

Two Peas in a Pod Deluxe Pack for 8

Includes 8 thank-you notes, dinner plates, dessert plates, cups, forks, spoons, napkins (2 per guest), solid-color table cover, mylar balloon, 18 assorted balloons, 50 yards of curling ribbon, 3 rolls of 81' crepe paper streamers in 3 colors, cone hats, #1 candle and cake candles.

Or here's another variation on this super cute theme! This one has a little different shade of green to it, and some super cool metallic mylar balloons in coordinating colors.

Whatever theme you choose for your twin's birthday party they're sure to have a blast with their friends. Just make sure you give yourself a time schedule and plenty of time to plan plan your party and get your party supplies and invitations ordered and sent out. You should celebrate too, you get to celebrate two birthdays all rolled up in one day. While it may be a hectic day, look at the bright side, you only have to do it once (a year)!

One Or Two Party Themes For Your Twins?

One of the toughest decisions you'll make for your twins birthday party is whether to have one theme for the whole party, or to play on their individual identities to create two unique themes. Often you can use a contrasting color, or a slight variation on the same theme.

Often twins have two very different personalities, should you plan the party with two unique themes or colors, or take advantage of the fact that you can have one party with one theme.

When the twins are young you decide if you should have one theme, or two. When the twins get older let them decide how they want to plan the party.

Remember even though the day is extra hectic, it's easier, and more economical to plan one birthday party than it is to plan two.

Twin Birthday Party Ideas

1. Dress up the birthday babies and let them be the star.

2. Plan a party based on the twins favorite characters.

3. Plan a cupcake party, they're the perfect size for one candle. Each child can have their own mini cake. Put out the sprinkles and some decorative icing, and let the children decorate their own cupcakes.

4. Plan a fairytale party, your twins can be princesses, or princes.

5. Plan a zoo or jungle party, let everyone stuff their own animal, or give it a two by two, Noah's Ark theme.

6. Have everyone dress in pairs. If the children all know each other, or if you can coordinate it have all the guests have a twin for the day. You can also have dress up outfits at the party, and have two of each outfit for them to slip on over their clothes.

Twin's Birthday Party Stories

If your looking for some fun activities, or party favor ideas for your twin's birthday party check out these twin birthday party stories! You can read one to the kids at the party, or send each child home with a copy of the book as a party favor to remember their twin party experience.

Or maybe you want to tell the story of your twins? Better yet let them share their own story with party guests. When you're done with stories, give an old game a new name and play some classic games renamed to fit your twins or your party theme. Make sure you plan plenty of activities. It's never a good thing to have a house full of bored children!

I'm not quite certain yet, but a line from Forrest Gump is stuck in my head, "We were like peas & carrots." I think there might be something to that. :-)
