Unique Animal Christmas Ornaments

Updated on December 2, 2014

Animal Ornaments Make Great Gifts and Kids Love Them!

I love Christmas ornaments. I buy them every year, I can never seem to get enough of them, they are so versatile! Beside the obvious function of hanging them on your Christmas tree, you can also hang them from the curtain rods in your windows on fishing wire to make a beautiful arrangement that can be enjoyed inside and out. You can tie them to the outside of gifts as a decoration. You can hang them from the bottom of a lampshade, for a holiday look, as well as from curtain tiebacks. The possibilities are as endless as the selection of ornament that you can buy, or make.

Below I have gathered my favorite kind of Christmas tree ornaments, ones with an animal theme. Everything from wild tigers to baby kittens, and from turkeys' to butterflies, we have all your favorite animals. I know you will find a herd for your Christmas tree!

What is the Difference Between Wolves and Foxes?

Foxes and wolves have one thing in common, they are both endangered species, but what are some of their differences?

A fox is small, about 30 pounds and has a pointy muzzle, whereas a wolf is much larger, about 150 pounds and has a broader, heavier muzzle.

Wolves live in packs of 6 to 10 and foxes stay with a much smaller group of about 2 or 3.

Baby foxes are called kits and baby wolves are called pups

Foxes eat fruit and berries as well as meat while wolves usually only eat meat

Beautiful Koalas....Not Bears?

Did you know that Koalas are not bears at all? They are marsupials, which means that their young are born immature & they develop further in the safety of a pouch, like kangaroos. They sleep 18 to 20 hours a day, but not because they are lazy, it just takes that long to digest the leaves they eat for meals.

2 to 3 yards of animal print fabric or faux fur

Copper colored garland or strings of wooden beads

Two Skeins of Copper colored ribbon, or animal print ribbon with wire in it

Animal ornaments

Start by laying out newspaper and spraying your copper paint on the dry branches. Leave to dry.

Wrap the animal print fabric around the base of the tree, tucking in the raw edges.

String the lights generously. Either all amber, all white or a mixture of both.

For garland it's your choice if you prefer copper colored garland or wooden bead strands. Whichever you choose, drape it elegantly.

When the paint on the branches is dry to the touch, tuck them into your tree limbs to add texture and color.

Hang your ornaments, don't be afraid to add other other ornaments that go with the theme like tiki masks, carved wood totem poles, etc.

Make a VERY large and puffy bow to put at the top of the tree with a few streamers hanging down and tuck them in the tree's branches.
