Unique January Celebrations
Celebrate Chocolate, Popcorn and Peanut Butter
What a combo!
I've always thought it a little silly that we celebrate so many unique themes on specific days as National Holidays or Celebrations. But really when a person does some research and discovers the story behind each one the passion for the topic shines through.
Take Chocolate Covered Cherry Day, January 3rd for example, I'll be talking a little later about how that came about, but here I'd like to proclaim that Chocolate Covered Cherry Day would be my husband's favorite day of the year if he knew about it!
His sister usually makes him homemade covered cherries because the entire family knows his weakness. He usually only has them over the holidays.
In my research of special days to celebrate in January I also found Peanut Butter Day and Popcorn Day. Just humor me and check out the stories behind these three days.
Chocolate
Covered Cherry Day
No one knows the origin and it really isn't an official holiday, but it is celebrated by many and listed as a holiday on several organization's websites.
Since 1929 Cella's of New York has made the gooey maraschino cherry chocolate covered cherry. Maybe no one knows why January 3rd was marked as the day to celebrate this holiday so I thought I'd guess. You can add to the list of reasons BELOW!
Remember
January 3, 2013 is National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day!!

POPCORN - Every Variety Makes me Smile
Well except hot seasonings.
So why celebrate Popcorn Day? Ask anyone who enjoys a bowl of popcorn. Who knows, the first popped corn may have been an accident. It certainly took off from there and became an all-American snack.
I have to admit that sometimes I skip a meal and eat a whole tub of buttered popcorn at the movies. With a tall coke of course.
It's not healthy and it's not smart and it's not good for the waistline, but it is one of my comfort food - events!!
We have an Air Popper at home that works in the micro-wave, by Presto. You buy these little heat disks to place in the bottom, I bought coconut oil and non popped popcorn. It is so good, especially if I melt some butter to drizzle on top.
Popcorn gift cans are very popular, and I've always enjoyed buying them as a fund raiser, because kids feel like they are doing something very special when they come to the door to sell popcorn. The Boy Scouts have sold popcorn for years!
Microwave popcorn is one of our Grandson's favorite snacks.
In fact one time we were babysitting the boys, he asked for popcorn, and as it was finishing in the microwave, he said to me, "Mammaw, you grab the bag and I'll open the door."
I said, "What?"
He said, "Daddy always throws it out the back door if it's burnt 'cause it stinks."
So adorable. It wasn't, we didn't and he had a great snack.
Make Note:
January 31, 2013 is National Popcorn Day

Double Up On Peanut Butter - Peanut Butter has it's own holiday.
There was a time in my life when I would have made my own peanut butter. We always have peanut butter in our cabinet because it's become a staple.
Important Notice:
January 24 is National Peanut Butter Day!
My Personal Preference in Peanut Butter. - Of All the Snacks Celebrated Here, PB is it for Me!
We love Jif Extra Chunchy.
I'm glad there is a day to celebrate Peanut Butter, because with out peanut butter 1/2 of my school lunches would not have existed. Now, our daughter-in-law only likes smooth peanut butter, so when the grand kids visit they are amazed at the chunky we always have in the cabinet. Only the oldest has attempted to try it, though. And I was told they don't like peanut butter cookies, but I've observed the opposite - maybe they didn't know that's what's in them. I pity anyone with a peanut allergy.
