Upbeat Christmas Songs to Get You Into the Holiday Spirit

Updated on November 19, 2014

The Gift of Music - Add Some Upbeat Christmas Songs to Someone's MP3 Playlist

If someone you know is feeling a little "bah-hum-bug" this year, there's nothing like a few upbeat Christmas songs to get them into the holiday spirit. Whether they prefer some classic Santa tunes or something a bit more modern, there are options here for everyone on your Christmas list.

My teenage daughter takes walks around our neighborhood every day with her mp3 earphones jammed into her ears. She never listens to CDs anymore - in fact, she doesn't even own a cd player. Her mp3 player is her lifeline to all things musical.

So this year I decided that instead of trying to figure out the latest bands and artists she was listening to, I'd add a personalized holiday musical collection to her play list as a Christmas gift. Since she walks for exercise, upbeat Christmas songs were the best choice for her. Her list included songs from different eras, genres, and artists. Some were chosen for their popularity and catchy tunes, while others were chosen for sentimental reasons. I have shared them all with you here and threw in a few extras as well.

Traditional Upbeat Christmas Songs - Classic Christmas Carols with a Kick

Traditional Christmas carols (also referred to as hymns or noels) are songs with lyrics associated with the birth of Jesus or the winter season. There are many of these songs from all over the world, but for our purposes, we'll just stick with the popular English versions. Here are some of my favorite uptempo traditional holiday songs performed by various artists. Vote on your favorites. If you don't see your favorite on the list, feel free to add it!

Christmas Eve and Other Stories by Trans-Siberian Orchestra - A Rock Orchestra Christmas Song Collection

Wow. I can't say enough about this music! What a unique take on Christmas music. The vocal passion and musical arrangements are amazing and the stories being sung touch the heart. Call me crazy but some of the songs remind me of a cross between Pink Floyd and Meatloaf while others make me feel like I'm in the first row of a Broadway play.

Metal, rock, soft rock, orchestra, acoustic, children's choir...it's all here. Something for everyone. Songs include some traditional remakes such as God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and O Come All Ye Faithful as well as a large selection of contemporary tunes. These are the kind of songs you don't just "listen to". They each tell a story with sound. True artistry.

If you haven't heard this cd yet, do yourself a favor and go read 5 or 10 Amazon reviews. You'll see I'm not the only one moved by the Christmas songs of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. This collection is available in mp3 song and album as well as cd formats.

Popular Country Christmas Music

More Upbeat Christmas Songs

Many of the country stars have their own versions of traditional holiday music. Some even write their own songs. I love many genres of music but country is my favorite. Here's a few of the more popular country Christmas songs.

Run Run Rudolph by Luke Bryan

Bonfire by Craig Morgaine(Christmas Version)

Last Christmas from The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection

Christmas Rock by Toby Keith

Christmas Flash Mob by Journey of Faith - South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach

I absolutely love this video! This flash mob is singing classic Christmas songs in a mall and they are so talented. Watch for the guys on the escalator.

Little Known Facts About Christmas

Alabama was the first state to declare Christmas as a national holiday in 1870. The last state to follow suit was Oklahoma in 1907.

Another Musical Christmas Gift Idea - Teddy Takes Requests with Baby Grand Piano Music Box

Teddy Takes Requests plays Christmas carols and other songs. 60 songs total. Just change his hat to hear him play 7 different styles of music.

As a piano player (well, I try) and lover of Christmas songs, this little guy would be my favorite yuletide gift ever. He plays 60 songs in the styles of Christmas carols, patriotic songs, railroad songs, Dixieland band songs, children's tunes and more.

To change his song style, simply take one of the corresponding hats from the hat rack and place it on his head. How cute is that? The piano keys move and are "presence activated".

Reviews of Teddy Takes Requests are overall excellent. Most reviewers were surprised by the sound quality and were thrilled at how entertaining it was. Several had problems with some of the hats not working but from what I can see, the company is quick to either exchange or refund the item.

I would love to have this music box and be able to hand it down to my children and grandchildren. It's unique and would make a wonderful family "heirloom". But of course, to make the set complete I would need to have the Maestro Mouse with Baby Grand Piano and the Play It Again Polar Bear with Baby Grand Piano to complete the collection!

Visit the North Pole

You don't even have to leave your warm, comfy house. You can visit the North Pole right now and sing along to Christmas carols, play games, read Christmas stories and lot more.

Celtic Woman Sings Ding Dong Merrily on High

I just love these women and could listen to them all day. Perfect harmonies, perfect voicess.
