Romantic Valentine's Day Breakfast in Bed Ideas

Updated on October 2, 2014

Treat your love to the best breakfast in bed

Arrange a comfortable and romantic breakfast in bed for your Valentine! It's fun to pamper your sweetheart with tasty dishes and a prettily laid out tray.

People sometimes worry that serving breakfast in bed will be too messy, or too much trouble. But by planning ahead, you can make a delightful impression and show your love with panache.

The breakfast tray in the picture is set with pretty rose-patterned china, and covered with a vintage tea towel that was embroidered with pink hearts by my maiden great-aunt. The bed, too, is covered with a rose-patterned quilt and pillows.

Here's some ideas and recipes to help you set up a similar romantic scene. It will be a sweet gift for your true love, and a pleasure for you!

  • Spoon the batter into a Heart-Shaped Pancake Ring to make heart-shaped pancakes!
  • Add a few drops of red food coloring to make pink pancakes.

Loving Heart Eggs

Always sunny-side up, these cheerful fried or steamed eggs bring romance to your every-day breakfast. Tip: Warm a plate in the oven as you cook the eggs, then slide them onto it to keep warm while you prepare the rest.

Boiled eggs can be molded and then sliced into hearts, and deviled or used to garnish a salad.

Tips: Use small eggs. After boiling, remove the shell and close the egg in the mold. Then place the mold in ice water for 15 minutes to make the egg hold its shape.

Set the bed tray prettily with colored tableware and elegant cloth napkins. Use smaller plates so as not to crowd the eating area. Tip: Put serving dishes on the bedside table or bureau, and bring them to your sweetheart as needed!

Choose colors and styles of tableware to suit the recipient's personality. Here is a lovely example of pink ceramic tableware that even has heart-shaped plates!

Make the Bed Comfy

A romantic breakfast in bed can be comfortable and elegant, and fun to organize, too! You can lean against piled pillows, or use a bedrest for more support. They're also great to have around for reading, crafting, or watching movies in bed.

An elegant wooden tray with a wide lip will keep the plates from sliding off. Get one with legs that fold up, so you can use it either with the legs down, or flat on your lap.

To keep clean and neat, spread a flirty dishtowel over your chest and lap. Spread a second pretty towel on the tray as a tablecloth. A package of wet wipes on the tray helps with quick clean-up.
