What to do for Valentine's Day in Vancouver

Updated on February 10, 2016

Valentines Day Date Ideas in Vancouver

This page includes a list of fun, different, interesting and romantic things you can do to celebrate Valentine's Day in Vancouver. Why limit yourself to dinner, wine and flowers?

If you live in wonderful Vancouver, Canada, you won't be short of original, creative things to do with your sweetie on Valentines Day. Of course you can do the traditional dinner and dancing, but there's so much more. How about snowshoeing on Mount Seymour, taking a romantic cruise around the Harbour, ice skating in Richmond or taking a romantic stroll around Stanley Park Seawall? Those are just a few great ideas. There are plenty of others. There is plenty of family fun too if you want something special to do with the kiddies.

Valentines Day Debate: Love it or Hate It - What's your opinion?

Okay, then. Where do you stand on Valentine's Day. Is it important to you? Do you love it or hate it? Is it commercialized nonsense or a chance to bring out the romantic and sexy in you and your partner? If you don't have a partner, is it a sad and lonely time or a happy time filled with color, flowers and self nurturing?

Are you a Valentines Day fan?

Attend Chinese New Year Celebrations at the Plaza of Nations

On Valentines Day! How Cool is That?

Metro Vancouver has a thriving Chinese community and Chinese New Year and Valentines Day happen to coincide. On February 14, take in the Chinese New Year Parade celebrating the Year of the Tiger. Its scheduled to run from 9:30 AM to 11 AM, starting at Millennium Gate at Pender Street and moving into China town. That's a great event for the entire family to enjoy. Later, starting at 3:00 PM, there's New Year Celebrations at the Plaza of Nations (all free to attend) as well as shopping, food and drink. After dark, drop in the Edgewater Casino, or take in one of the concerts in the area. If you were here for the 2010 Olympics, you'll remember LiveCity Yaletown and Vancouver Molson Canadian Hockey House. Both venues have activities happening on Valentines Day.

Enjoy a Valentines Chocolate Contest at the House of Switzerland

on Granville Island

The House of Switzerland (another reminder of the 2010 Olympics) has a special Valentines Day event. Drop by between 12 to 1 PM for the chocolate contest with a panel of celebrity judges. Afterward, spend the afternoon enjoying the many attractions at Granville Island. Consider attending live theatre at one of the Island's three theatre venues.

Take a Romantic Dinner Cruise around Vancouver Harbour

A romantic cruise, complete with dining and dancing has to be one of the loveliest ways for lovers to spend this romantic evening. Vancouver Cruises has some enticing offerings to check out.

As Vancouverites know, the scenery from the water is spectacular. If you've never done this before, could this be the year?

Snow Shoeing and Chocolate Fondue

at Mount Seymour

What? Spend Valentines Day evening snowshoeing by moonlight on Mount Seymour's groomed trails? Then finish up the evening with a decadent chocolate fondue by candlelight in the forest? Works for me.
