a poets only dream..............poetry

Updated on February 10, 2015

Nothing changes at the hand of poetry
worlds do not keep from colliding

with a line that may forever alter the heart
still mankind lies biding

a loving heart may melt another making polar caps
go missing

children are born and grow in a house from
something as simple as kissing

If I had a wish it would be to stop a war
by simply saying aloud one poetic line

Yet poetry cannot move worlds and
nor a song save any time

and for poets if there is a place in this world
let his pride fall away and open that door

that they may write for none but themselves ?
we may awaken from a stupor and write no more

give my words one purpose and let me
have such meaning

as to know it was all for something worthy
than to lay awake while surely dreaming

ah but to change this horrible world

Beautifully expressed, poetry heals the soul and it is a great way of expressing what one feels.

Voted up and awesome. That would be terrific to be able to change this horrid world through poetry and to move everyone to promote peace. However poetry does do amazing things like make people happy, sad and brings out lots of other emotions. If there was no poetry I'd probably explode with everything bottled up inside of me. Passing this on and on.

Hi fellow poet, I don't believe there is any beauty as magical as a well written line. It's intriguing that while few people earn any real income or great recognition, and yet we feel impelled. People say Elizabeth Barrett Browning is largely famous due to one sonnet-but what an amazing sonnet it is. You say you began to write fairly recently; I am glad you discovered its joy.

I do write for myself as well, sans any boundary, rules and regulations... I just prefer to let flow my emotions which I am not good in expressing verbally. And some times I express symbolically. But its the freedom to express that is what matters most. One may express through prose also. But there are many like us who prefer to build a world withing words may b=for like minded without being too straight many a times, that I do agree. It's a way for self satisfaction and yes I will not deny that, for me may be I am a very self centered person. Anyway, thank you for this one. Shared and votes up.

Hope you are doing good, Ed.

poets are the conscience of a people Ed--and our words their mirror--their path maybe--sometimes when I write, I find some universal truth --some connectedness to another person maybe--and for me, often that is the big payoff--hope you are well

Meet me halfway Ed across the sky and we'll call all the poets to unite. By the way, I write for myself too you know. :)

Whatever it is that is bothering you when you write this piece, I wish you peace and as always...

Love and twinkle from the sky~

Love this.... Poets surely are isolated characters... The pen though, is mightier than the sword.

It's not that bad to write one's poetry for only oneself. I did just that for most of my life. It's a conversation, a mentoring, a confidence, a sounding - board - a lifesaving.

Perhaps if one can save just one person - him/herself - that saves and changes as much of the world as any one person can. Sometimes, then something seeps from the one to touch others.

Think how it would be if each 'only one person' did it.
