~~~ Inclement ~~~
Updated on August 13, 2013
~ Inclement ~
---- Autumn ----
Billowing canvas, of latent menace,
Silently brooding, over fences and trellis.
Freshly cut grass, resounds the chink of a spade;
Breathing in deep, as the seconds are weighed.
Bark of a hound, peeking desperate, warm rays;
A final farewell, from fine short, summer days?
Waywardly reaching under sky, overcast;
An overgrown yard, struggles free, at last.
Insects seek haven, from the chill soon to come,
As nature prepares, to withdraw from the fun.
Corpulent cat, lazily drinking the day;
Enjoying her stretch, miaow has nothing to say.
Moment by moment, one is feeling alive,
Whilst observing nows' antics, as he frets, and thrives....
---- Winter ----
Undulating trills, starling on the wing;
Ushers in the day, warbles, chirps, and sings.
Snow-capped rooves, branches caked in white;
Melodic drips of melted ice, are thawing from the night.
Next, on scene, glides a squawking crow;
Stirring from his sleep, as the cold winds blow.
Rattling bottles, glossy doorsteps chink;
Blustering flakes, alight an urban link.
Rhythmic beat, from a distant hammer;
Diurnal sounds, ferry noisy clamour.
Cotton-wool clouds steal a winter sun;
Summer's warm welcome, hides from everyone.
Car doors slamming, blaring radios jamming;
Whimpering hounds, bay a sunshine famine.
Stiff-white sheets, shield the vision, up ahead;
Gust-charged breeze whistles, "Stay in bed."
Back gates flapping, wakes a fat dog napping;
Machines, in labour, prompts a sneezing neighbour.
Frost-glazed pond, deigns the geese to surf
Slippy orange, webbed feet, waddle hallowed turf.
Melancholic pawns, of the commonplace, who
Must patiently await, for a summertime face.
      Romeos Quill,
      Bella does like the snow, hates the rain and baths. But you would think the snow gets her wet, she wouldn't like it, but she does. Those snow days are rare there, though.
      wetnosedogs ( feels good typing that name );
      It sounds like your Bella is a little bit different from the other fine hounds you have, but the snow just seems to attract most dogs, like a moth to the flame, as they dance about, chomping at the ether in the hope of getting a muzzle-full of snowflakes melting in their mouth.I like the look of those Swashbuckler Alsatians, with their great furry coat - they look great, and are really faithful.
      Have a gud 'un!
      That magnificent movie with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reid has got to be right up there as the all-time best Christmas movie - such a roller-coaster of emotions, and the ending is just magical. :)
      Romeos Quill,
      Thanks so much for your funny, wonderful comment. The wetnoses all love the rare snow day here in Alabama, even Bella, who doesn't like getting wet.
      Sorry, I really haven't :)
      I am a 'its a wonderful life' sort. All goodwill, moral messages and angels, what can I say.
      I cry through it all and then conversely feel happy because the ending is so brilliant and just.
      Anna! I can't believe you haven't seen that famous family Christmas movie; it's silly, but funny.
      Oh Anna.....don't get me started; just the thought of that turns a family man into Chevy Chase in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation :) - looking forward to that! Thanks a million.
      Hi Anna!
      It's good to have you whizz by for a read. I think you, and one other girl I've ever met are the only ladies who actually like the winter months, but I totally understand it because snowfall in December is pretty hard to beat for such warm feelings of contentment. Happy that you found a line that stood out for you, because that was my fave as well :)
      Have yourself a restful evening up in bonny Scotland;
      Warmest Regards,
      R.Q.
      Many thanks for dropping by Chuck; the change is starting to happen here, though it's still quite pleasantly warm in England.
      Best Wishes to you and your lucky wife.
      Sincerely,
      Hi wetnosedogs!
      It's good to make your acquaintance on here after reading Faith's stupendous Hub article dedicated to you and yours. I've never met a shaggy beast yet, that didn't like the snow; bouncing around with a dopey face and panting with a crazy tongue hanging outside of their mouth, like a pink envelope sending a happy letter. :)
      Thank you, and enjoy a wonderful evening;
      Warm Regards,
      Hi Faith Reaper;
      I'm glad that the photos appealed to you, which is really pleasant coming from the loveliest hug addict on Earth, so I'm : " Sending a hug, so warm, and true, from encompassing arms, red, white, not blue."
      Thanks for dropping by for a looksey,
      Very good writing RQ. Such warmth then chill eloquently expressed. Loved your pictures as well.
      My favourite line was 'whimpering [...] a sunshine famine' - really very clever.
      I am a winter girl so I am looking forward to the cold descending.
      Anna :)
      A timely poem, even though its only August I can feel Falls chill already. Maybe an early winter in Northern California. Only time will tell.
