~~~ Man-Up ~~~
Updated on June 16, 2013
~ Man-Up ~
Explicit depiction of lustrous lines,
Inflict these times with surfeit signs;
Campaigns of love, before you met
That readied new flesh, for wild soubrette.
Bespoked, bedazzled; your senses frazzled;
Coquettish broad, ignored;
She labours now, seeks suitor's vow,
To father her hidden hoard.
Pernicious moves, flow double-talk,
Bleak past, outlined by pavement chalk;
A shifting heart, seats corbie mind,
To reach for you, she's so inclined.
This desperate waltz, before the fall,
Too late, to bleat a sheepish call?
You fixed her time, now doing life,
Reluctantly, must make her wife;
So be a man, and take her hand,
Bestow on her, your wedding band.
      Well, here I am after a short nap! The Flash/Invisible Girl is here! I liked the pictures. They went very well with your poem, which was worded wonderfully. Loved it and voted it up awesome!
      Oh. It was difficult to dechiper the meaning on this one. The blame squarely fell on the parents though.
      I love the line 'Bleak past, outlined by payment chalk.' Very clever and different. Anna
      All power to you Anna, for having a crack at decoding this one, as it's not immediately obvious.Perhaps if I mentioned that it is about a young woman made pregnant out of wedlock, and the observations of a reluctant dad-to-be, it might shine a little more daytime on it.
      Thank you, for the engaging, and uplifting remarks. :)
      Sincerely,
      There's something about being obligated... obligating oneself to marrying someone that just takes the magic right out of all that it's supposed to be. Chances are more than likely when this is the case; the marriage will not last anyway. But... what an intricate and beautiful way you put it together... DID YOU SEE THAT RING?!! Do you know I have a secret obsession with Hello Kitty? I want one! lol
      Yours Truly,
      You are spot on, dear heart, but it seems to be the honourable, and right thing to do, in such desperately dire circumstances....perhaps they could grow, and learn to love each other?
      Oh!! That ring ;) Now that ring upon which you are gazing, just happens to be one of the most expensive creations in the whole world, boasting clusters of real jewels, and embedded gem stones.You likey?Here Kitty, Kitty........:)
      As I have read the comments; I have to add Happy Birthday Writinglover :)
      RQ I like how your poetry always provides a mystery with a meaning waiting to be deciphered.
      Forced love never works, obviously it has to come from both parties and one would probably always be resenting the other. Resentment always seems to cast a shadow over love. The better idea, I suppose is not spreading seeds where there is not already love and mutual commitment.
      Oh... I thought it was like the cheap Hello Kitty jewelry I buy on eBay... forget it then.... lol.
      I totally agree about the pre-marital sex issue you brought up
      They must have felt something for each other, at least once upon a time, in order for her to be pregnant.And yes, you can't force love, as it is an act of free will, but what about all of those arranged marriages that so many varied cultures embrace? Some of those seem to work out;they must have learned to love each other, at some point.
      Regarding the jewellery....you're easily pleased!Thanks for the tip ;)
      Yours,
      R.Q.
      Beautiful poem, but sad. It's certainly ideal for pregnancy to happen between two who would already be willing to marry. But many times it doesn't happen that way, and like Cat said, this kind of obligation takes the magic out of it, and can bring resentment. I think it is important to do as much for a baby as possible, but sometimes a couple marrying is not the answer. But, of course, being a single parent is incredibly hard. I don't know how people do it!
      Have a wonderful day, R.Q.
      Hi Kathryn;
      I'm abundantly aware about the issues surrounding this, but if a couple don't want their children to be bastardized, then I still think that the honourable thing to do would be to marry, and there really should be no need for marriage not to be a joyous occasion, despite their premature actions, if they love one another.Like you said, being a single parent is very difficult, so I believe it would be better, for the sake of their children, that there should be both parents taking the strain, although again, I agree that the prime reason for marriage is because the couple love each other.
      Thanks for dropping by, and have a lovely evening : )
      Yours Sincerely,
      R.Q.
      My sincerest apologies for such a delay in my return, but as you know... my computer was on the fritz last night.
      Oh, if only all people who had sex were in love then we would have so many less problems. But, alas, the world is filled with people who partake in these activities like it is a hobby and of course, I know plenty women that have been 'stuck' in relationships and obligated to all facets of the relationship, often times resulting in pregnancy.
      Arranged marriages? Well, that is their way of life... and if I knew Vanilla ice cream was my only option, I suppose I could learn to enjoy it more than I do know, knowing that I could have chocolate or strawberry if I wanted... get my drift?
