As a writer, I've all experience many times that music can help me out of a tough writer's block. Here are some songs that could help inspire specifically your sad story writing skills.

"Kiss It All Better" by He is We is a super sad song about the loss of a loved one that was taken away from you and that is bound to get you right in your feels and spark some writing inspiration.
"Hold On" by Chord Overstreet is such a heartfelt song about loneliness and loss and will surely help you get on your way writing about the saddest of things.
"Closure" (covered) by Blake Mcgrath is a very emotional song about a hard breakup and depending on the type of story you are going for, this could fit very well or even just plant some good ideas in your head for plot/ give you the heavy emotions presented in the song.
