20 Quotes on Favor and Blessing from the Book of Proverbs

Updated on May 19, 2017

Favor generates many blessings in our lives, from health, relationships, promotion to many opportunities. In the Book of Proverbs, the word 'favour' in the Hebrew from the Strong's Concordance means graciousness, kindness, pleasant, precious, to bend or stoop in kindness to an inferior, delight, pleasure, be acceptable, desire. Favor is God's kindness on those who love Him. Here are some wisdom from Book of Proverbs on favour and blessings. These quotations are from the KIng James Version and New King James Version.

FAVOR

Proverbs 3:1-4

My son, forget not my law; but let your heart keep my commandments:For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to you .Let not mercy and truth forsake you: bind them about your neck; write them upon the table of your heart:So shall you find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

In these verses, there is a condition and instructions on how to receive favor with God and man and many other blessings. This is when the instruction of verse 1 and 3 are followed.

Proverbs 8:35-36

For whoso finds me find life, and shall obtain favor of the Lord. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

Proverbs 11:27

He that diligently seeks good procureth favor: but he who seeks mischief, it shall come unto him.

Proverbs 12:2

A good man obtains favor of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.

Proverbs 13:15

Good understanding gives favor: but the way of transgressors is hard.

Proverbs 14:9

Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favor.

Proverbs 14:35

The king's favor is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causes shame.

This proverb shows us the connection between favor and wisdom. When we use God's wisdom in our lives, our affairs, our choices, decisions, in money, in our home, in our work, we can gain the favor of the King, those in authority over us, our leaders, etc.

Proverbs 16:15

In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favor is as a cloud of the latter rain.

Proverbs 18:22

Whoso finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of the Lord.

Proverbs 19:6

Many entreat the favor of a prince. And every man is a friend to him who gives gifts.

Prince in the Hebrew here means generous, free, noble, willing hearted, prince. Many seek the favor of one who is generous, or in a top position or authority figure.

Proverbs 19:12

The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion, But his favor is like dew on the grass.

Proverbs 22:1

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.

There are many comparisons in this proverb. A good reputation should be esteemed more than great riches and gracious heart more than silver, gold and money.

Proverbs 28:23

He who rebuke a man afterwards shall find more favor than he who flatters with the tongue.

This shows that giving correction, reproof and fair criticism can gain favor more than flattery.

Proverbs 29:26

Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the Lord.

BLESSING

The Hebrew word for blessing brakak from the Strongs Concordance - means benediction, prosperity, liberal and present. Blessings is much more than having tons of money.

Proverbs 10:6

Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

Proverbs 10:22

The blessing of the Lord, it makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.

Proverbs 11:10-11

When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting. 11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

Proverbs 11:26

He who withholds corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him who sells it.

The individual who holds back his corn (grain), hoards it, hides it, in times when they need it, people will not be happy. But those who sells it when it is necessary, a blessing is in store.

Proverbs 24:24-25

He that saith unto the wicked, Thou are righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him: 25 But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.

Those who should take a stand against wickedness in their government, churches, schools, home, work, entertainment industry and is not in agreement with it and does not blindly accept it as right, but brings a rebuke, blessings will come upon those individuals.

Proverbs 28:20

A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he who hastens to be rich shall not be innocent.

There is a connection between being faithful and blessings. When you are faithful where you are, in your marriage, to God, in your work, in small things, in big things, demonstrating hard work and commitment, many blessings will flow. But there is a consequence for those who pursue get rich quick schemes.

Blessing and favor are two divine concepts and Proverbs is certainly a book of wisdom. I also compiled quotes from that book. Mine were "Classroom Quotes."

My favorite of your quotes is "The blessing of the Lord, it makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it." I pray for such blessings.
