A Beaten Path Traveled

Updated on March 13, 2011
Source

...

As I travel

along a beaten path

it’s revealed to me

reality

created to drown me

in fear

in myself

alone

and aware

of how alone

I am

how can I bear

to spend another night

in reckless thought,

reclusive dreaming,

lonely sentiment,

lustful longing,

hopeful torment

lost in imagination

trapped inside

the very mind

that thinks these thoughts

and writes these words

not spoken

not heard

with allegiance

to elegance,

I reminisce

my sorrows

upon blankness

for all to witness

for all to see

in clarity

I stand before

my foreign reflection

without a direction

revealing to me

my vanity

and the errors

of my ways

my fatal mistakes

something breaks me

keeps me here

hearing her voice

recalling her choice

inhaling her scent

missing ascent

into bliss

in her kiss

in her eyes

in her lips

in her grasp

in her grip

Something…

always draws me

to her memory

the pain expressed in the poem is immense and it has been even more beautifully written...!!!

Certain points bound me and m still thinking abt it after about 20 mins of reading and re-reading it......

      gr8 work!

I like the part foreign reflection. many times i've looked in the mirror and not recognized or liked the person i saw staring back at me. memories can be good or they can be hard. but every memory reminds us of who we are, and where we are now.

Wonderful. It conveys such a feeling of desperation, and really makes you feel all the sensory details. :)

Ben, my favorite. When poetry leaves the line and takes us hostage for a moment, it is born again with each and every read. Beautiful and I shall vote it so.

Thank you very much, Ian. Loss, indeed. Sometimes I just have to let it pour out of me.

wow, that's amazing. i will not lie to you and say that you will forget about her and not feel anymore pain, but i will say that the pain will slowly fade and you will find that life goes on and someone else will come along and make you complete again.

Ben! Utterly and magnificently beautiful, painfully poignant and presented majestically!

What more can I say? This is an epitome of your poetic expression! Surely a powerful muse directs your thoughts and fingers as you write!
