A Beautiful Tomorrow

Updated on January 9, 2017

I am waiting for that beautiful tomorrow,

Where there is only joy, no sorrow.

Where sunlight is pleasantly warm,

Where being gentle does no harm.

I am waiting for that beautiful tomorrow,

Where thoughts are not narrow.

Where inviting arms are always open wide,

Where one doesn't always seek, but provide.

I know my wait for that beautiful tomorrow,

Is flying far away with the wings of a sparrow.

The night has been long, and spirits crying,

Hope and faith, are slowly dying.

And, I am waiting for that beautiful tomorrow.

Perhaps I shouldn't wait, but create that beautiful tomorrow.

      Dear Mr.Havlick,

Many thanks for reading my poem.

I have been trying to write for a while now, but constructive feedback is something that has been lacking. I am really excited at the prospect of being read and watched by a poet as senior as yourself.

Looking forward to reading more of your work.

      Warm Regards,

      Ankit

Mr. Mittal, you commented on my recent sonnet "Our Unexpected Reciprocity," so I've looked you up, and see you're young and just starting. This sonnet is a good start that shows talent and potential, but as with most things in life, the key to becoming a good poet is persistence.

If I may make a few suggestions, to help keep meter in rhythm, read your lines out loud, marking the stresses as you go. Get a book on the craft of English or American poetry (like Clement Wood's "Complete Rhyming Dictionary," for instance).

But most of all, keep writing poems, for any excuse you can think of, and I'll be watching to see how you do.

Thank you again for commenting on my recent sonnet.

Best wishes, Max Havlick, Chicago west suburbs
