A Brave Coward....an anecdote

Updated on March 18, 2015

His parents were middle class people. His home was lovely. He was the only child. He wanted to be with someone and urged for a sibling and later a companion. He was a born gentle, nice and humble. He never thought to hurt anyone. He himself was very confused between his politeness and cowardliness. He loved someone very passionately but never expressed it due to fear of rejection. Was he a coward? He thought a lot and moved on. He wanted to be a doctor but never expressed it to his parents due to fear of loosing his home. Was he a coward who was not ready for upcoming challenges?
He was a popular submissive husband. He became a father. His three years old lovely son was ready to hear the stories of the legends, the warriors and the brave ones. Night after night he narrated, his son listened. He asked to his father how he came to know all these stories of the brave ones. He answered that he was the warrior. For the very first time, he felt brave at heart. He found it interesting to be the hero of his son. He narrated and he imagined his father as his protagonist. Day after day he became his son’s superman and a complete man for himself. He was living his courageous life in the stories narrated for his son.
One day when his son’s wealthy classmate scolded his son, he maintained silence in front of everyone. Son shed tears and asked why you didn’t do anything father? He was unanswered. He confirmed himself that he was a coward. From that day his son never asked for a story.
After ten years, the same silence remained stand still in their hearts. At the time of returning from school, he went to pick up his son on a bicycle. His son was not ready to sit with him. They walked side by side besides a railway track. Suddenly son started to run. He wanted to see a fast train. He was on the same track on which the train was coming. He raved, “Father Look! a fast moving train and you was running faster than this train in my dreams”. Father felt a sudden shock to hear that his son’s hero is still alive. He ran after his son and throw him away from the track. To save his son his lower body was smashed by the train. on his last breath he had his answer that Although he would die very soon but he had no fear because he knew he was never a coward. He screamed “Son Let me alive in your thought as a brave one as before, Call me a coward because of leaving you all alone here “.

Touching, I agree. Glad he finally realized that he had worth, especially in the eyes of his son.

Very touching story. How often people don't realize their potential until it is too late. Now you hope the son breaks the cycle.

      Voted up and interesting.
