A BLUE WINTER
A blue winter
Winter’s heart aches
Like an old barren heart woman,
And her eyes awaits of Persephone.
To style her,
Frosty, frozen white hair
With the wreath of colorful daisies
And the blood of life runs
In the veins of bald barren trees;
With the golden blazing touch
Of their soul close bosom friend………
And her lamented heart sings
The songs of daisies………

Explanation of the poem
A blue winter’, is a philosophical poem and the whole structure of the poem revolves around the pains of winter season. The device of symbolism has been used to describe the pain of a season. Here winter is like an old woman with barren heart. The whole structure of the poem revolves around the Greek story of abduction of Persephone. In which Demeter waits for the departure of her daughter Persephone from the under world. She is the Greek goddess of spring and she is the source of happiness for her mother. She would decorate the mother earth with the flowers of spring. Here the image of ‘soul close bosom friend’ describes the appearance of Apollo the Greek god of Sun, and the importance of sun light for earth.
To conclude, the whole poem we can say that winter is a blue sad cold season in which earth missies the sun light and the spring season .As the spring season shows her appearance in the face of Persephone the mother earth sings the songs of daises .And the lamentation of winters heart turns into the songs of spring.
