On A Canvas of White

Updated on February 21, 2017

The artist does walk toward the summit,

the rising mountain top's own palace,

A canvas under his arm, paints and brushes on his back,

All so gives him solace.

The final step to mean so much,

ending of his journey, personal goal complete.

This one special trek reflects so many,

all aimed at life's challenges, his to meet.

Before his walk is completed, heavy snow greets

the journeyman, now desperate,

This is a time of short rest, beneath a tree,

the traveler to seek and find a respite.

A Barred owl to fly from its tall tree's perch,

a welcome brother greets the scene,

Now this march, a trying affair,

deepening snows blanket the paths, all in between.

Suddenly from the forest's shadows,

a brown deer appears near a tall pine,

It effortlessly leaps into the darkening woodline,

as an ever beckoning sign.

A bright red fox reveals its self to meet him then,

a gentler trip does now to begin.

Just a few more precious strides to take him there,

this tiring journey, so worthy, to end.

At the peak, the designated point, grand overlook,

a new canvas revealed,

A presentation now laid before him,

in tones of white, all colors concealed.

How might an art portray a colorless scene,

a significance, this trip to mean,

Suddenly revealed, before his eyes to appear,

an answer, each hue to glean.

A lesson learned by this creative trekker,

to search through underlying lines,

A better story to be revealed, the brightest testimony,

is so, the tie that binds.

Staring closely at treasure chests of splendor,

this unexpectedly, for one to find,

Portrayed, more vivid tones, we all do marvel,

this collection, art so defined.
