Teacher, Mentor, Friend...Their Inspiration (a poem of inspiration)

Updated on September 16, 2015
Inspirator of the solving of mysteries...

Family member and a friend...
Family member and a friend...
Trusted mentor and guider...
Trusted mentor and guider...
prescriber of self-esteem...

Promotor of a bright tomorrow...

The owner of patience and strength...giver of love...spirit lifter...someone to understand...
The owner of patience and strength...giver of love...spirit lifter...someone to understand...

A child's self-worth, satisfaction, their dignity,

All to come in time, from their own birth.

No finer chance for each...in the schools,

Where we may teach, on this good earth.

Precious moments...where learning takes place,

Greater knowledge then, for all to embrace.

Every mother's own, but an extension, their souls,

Until their grown, to live a life full of grace.

What grander experience...those to instruct,

Life's finest symphony there to conduct.

Each charge to help construct...grasping facts,

Then, in their own ways, to so deduct.

Little ones, soon grown, lives to face, on their own,

Because of our love, they're never alone.

Cherished days, spent in schools...learning to read,

Obeying the rules... their true spirits shone.

Walking as women and men...new lives, so well prepared,

Passing on love, so shared, in school, someone cared.

Guiding minds and hearts, their welcoming hands to lend,

A true family member, is every teacher, a wonderful friend.

As an ex-teacher I totally concur with all that! It's so good to see children grow in confidence and be proud of their own learning, especially those I've taught who are dyslexic and have great difficulty with literacy. That's such a rewarding job.

Lovely poem. A child's self-esteem is worth everything.

This is a great tribute to the teachers who really care for every student who enters their classroom. I live in a small town, and because of that, all of us parents get to know our teachers very well. I feel really good about our teachers here. They are like extended family. We even invite them to our children's birthday parties, and they show up. Imagine that...:) and now I must brag on them more. My daughter is a gifted student. Straight A's since Pre-K, and she is almost 15 now in the ninth grade. My son is also an A student, and he is in third grade this year. Teachers really take a lot of time to keep our kids educated here, and all of us parents and students are very blessed to have them.

Until they're grown is so true, and then they are off on their own adventures, but we never stop loving them, and if we're both parent and teacher, we still want to go on teaching them, too, so they avoid mistakes, but that's often not appreciated!

We are all teachers, whether we have children or not. We set examples and pass on the knowledge bestowed upon us by our parents, teachers and mentors. It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it!

To some degree, we all teach. Those that do it for a living, no finer profession than to mold those minds.
