A City at Night. What a Beautiful Sight.

Updated on November 16, 2013
The sky at night. So lovely.
The sky at night. So lovely.

From 10,000 ft. the bright city lights are

bringing a smile to my face,.

They sparkle, as if to compete with

the moon and stars in the sky.

I stare through the window as the plane

is descending, from such a great height,

that 10,000ft seems almost on land.

So beautiful looks a city from here,

Lighting from white to deep amber,

I imagine theatres, with jewelled hands clapping

As thespians take their last bow.

Or a ballet with tutus, pastel shades

of all colours..

A ballerina lifted high above

her strong partner in dance..

A city at night, such a beautiful sight.

At least it is here from 10,000ft.

From here l don't see the shuffling

feet of a man on his way to his own

little spot, where he lays down to sleep

In his own cardboard box.

or the girl being raped

by more than one alone

where no-one can hear her distress.

Our cities are mixtures of darkness and light,

Ans l see the the beauty of bright beaming lights,

up here from 10,000ft.

We slowly descend and now l see roads,

cars look like toys on a track.

The lights are still bright and l cannot

help but see them through child-like eyes.

As a child sees the beauty, l see the good.

Enjoy while l can from 10,000ft.

Down to earth will come soon enough.

For now l can look at at bright city lights,

Shining like stars in the sky.

Think only good thoughts ,

Put a smile on my face....

Ready once more to face daily life.

Night lights can conjure so many thoughts.

City lights can obscure the stars.

From neon signs on dimly lit bars,

To streaking lights on moving cars.

    People are moving and grooving,

    In different ways,

    Than they stroll and stride,

    On sunlit days.

I wrote a hub with a similar title, last year. Silly me. No apology needed.

Thank you for reading. I agree positive thinking is always best. (I'm just not very good at it sometimes)

I am happy you liked the hub. Take care.

I'm sorry, Dim. I thought I had commented on this one but obviously I'm living in a fantasy land. Well, I'm here now, and there are so many messages and truths in this one it is hard to single out just one. Looks are deceiving at times, are they not? Here is my positive message for the day: we determine what is truth. We can make that city beautiful throughout by making a difference one person at a time. :) Beautiful work my friend.

Your imagery takes in the frights and delights of city lights from such an altitude indeed my friend. I've flown many times and often felt the same feelings, you are not alone in your thoughts. Nicely done, the city lights are often a safety net to our successful landing.

Great imagery and honesty about the beauty and the darkness found on the city streets. Great choice of pictures as well. V+
