A Day In the Rain - poem

Updated on July 11, 2012

This poem was inspired by something that happened to me a few years ago. I had been seeing Billy for about 6 months. I had a day off of work and I was going to drive over the night before so we could get up early to go fishing. However the next morning, it was raining a pretty good drizzle and it was foggy out. Since it wasn't safe to be out on the lake, and it was a warm day, we drove out to the lake and stopped at a picnic area. We got out of his truck and walked around in the rain and sat on a bench over looking the lake. We spent the entire day driving from campground to campground around the lake. We even went swimming in the rain. It was a wonderful, romantic day.

A day together in the rain

Walking hand in hand, down a country lane

Peaceful, with trees all around

Raindrops splashing on the ground

We have nothing to lose, just love to gain

I love your poem, and I love how you called it a "limerick." It adds to the happy, carefree tone of your poem. I love your introduction, but I also read the poem pretending I didn't know your introduction way. Both ways, the poem works so well:)
