A Fire Inside

Updated on August 16, 2016
BeccaHubbardWoods profile image

I am a mother, a metal head, a goth girl, and lover of all darkness. I'm also a writer, a cake artist, and a general weirdo.

Ah yes, that old familiar beast that is known to me all-too well. We are lovers and we are enemies.

It consumes me

Deep down inside

Has become a part of me

The pain is comforting

This fire that burns is for you

my love

The one who holds my heart

like a delicate flower

Be careful with this

my love

Because it can crack and break

in any moment

You must take care to handle

my fragile heart with care

Else you'll douse this flame

that burns inside of me.

This burning love

This painful, dreary feeling

I loathe, I love

You have control over me

Pain and love go hand in hand

It's a feeling we come to enjoy

to need

Makes us feel complete

You feed the flame with your smile

your kind, loving words

gentle embrace

Then seem to cherish the burn it causes

This flame will destroy me eventually

Torching me from the inside out

Until there is nothing left

but an empty shell of me

Becca, I am trying to read one of each of your different type of hubs..this time it was some poetry. This is a well written and describes the fine line between pleasure and pain (often the combination of the two) where love is concerned. "Fire Inside" is also the name of one of my favourite Bob Seger songs. Good work.

Beautifully written hub. I love the nice turn of phrase in here...

    "...your kind, loving words

    gentle embrace

Then seem to cherish the burn it causes..."

You convey this wonderfully. I'm glad I read this today. :)

The flames will not consume you, but unleash in you the ecstasy that is love. Beautiful words

The line I like the most is "You feed the flame with your smile." Very poetic. I look forward to reading more by you. I rated this Up. Oh, and thanks for the follow! :)

Wow! This is good and mushy stuff! love is one of my favorite subjects and you have written a beautiful poem! All of us want love without getting any burns, heartbreaks and pain but love demands lots from us....committment,emotions,sacrifice,compromise,pain etc.

keep on writing Becca and have a great day!

...being afraid to love... that out of control feeling... or maybe loving someone too much. hmm.

Doesn't it suck how passion can, if it's not fully reciprocal, turn on itself in the end. Only the sun and very rare romances burn in the proper degrees.

    "Until there is nothing left

Like the Phoenix rising from the ashes

    love is reborn and redeem

    for it can never die

    but waits for your embrace

Thank you so much for your kind words, Mike. In my personal experience, love is always just as ugly as it is beautiful. Thanks for reading and commenting, it's always nice to see you around. : ) Hope you have had a great weekend as well!

What a beautiful poem, Becca! It was so touching--a bit sad, though. I would hope that love does not destroy us--although I know it certainly can.

You are so gifted as a poet--it is always nice to find your work here! Have a great weekend.
