A Fools Lament

By Tony DeLorger © 2012

Insurmountable, or so it seems,

these lies I've cast, these petty dreams,

when denial is all my thoughts redeem,

in truth I betray myself.

To go to lengths in pretending strengths,

to bravely smile when souls are bent,

and colour worlds all dark and spent,

to uphold the veil of acceptance.

In me the truth is hidden well,

behind convention and in murmurs swell,

I cling to hope without actions knell,

and expect the mark of deliverance.

Yet in heart I know my weakness shows,

and I a pawn to my demands so low,

to remain a victim in a life on slow,

where nothing can change at all.

For it is the starkest truth that I must grasp,

without action my hopes and dreams will laps,

and I forlorn shall stagnate, collapse,

with nothing left to lose.

It is a fools lament to circumvent,

a world so rich and heaven sent,

with eyes closed shut and mind prevent,

the reality that greets us all.

Dreams come true when followed through,

when actions take and possibilities imbue,

to realise what we truly are,

potential gift-wrapped, only doubts can mar.

I think this poem speaks for many people. Especially the beginning. I believe allot of us aren't true to themselves and then they find themselves lost along the road chasing a dream they thought they had. The brilliant line "Dreams come true when followed through" is the key to success really. Its up to you to discover and follow until you find the end, being your dream, and then its time to start dreaming bigger.

Beautiful display of word powers here through poetry writing Tony, I totally enjoyed this hub, and poem.

I also like your usage of the negative and positive themes in poetic verse and combination here, and for that you've earned my vote up. Getting shared in all the ways possible.

I'm not even sure how to accurately describe what I've just read, so I'll settle for incredible writing that took my mind on a journey in just a few words.

Overwhelmed with the imagery of the poet, the illusions presented, and the possibilities. Read once, then dashed about and read a little of that one while looking at this one then another, it was mystifying.
