A Gift To You

Updated on December 21, 2011

I wrote this poem a year or two ago and completely forgot it til I came upon it yesterday while looking for something else. It is not the greatest, but I thought I would share it might come in handy for someone, encourage someone. I know it is not quite in meter or rhythm but I hope you enjoy it still.

Dawn follows the night,

The heart will lead to what is right.

These days seem dark and cold,

Many things lost from days of old.

Love and friendship tossed away,

There is always someone who will stay.

I hear your cry, I hear your fear.

You think you've lost something dear.

Darkness gathers all around,

You feel it crushing you to the ground.

Hear my words, hear more than what I speak,

Look inside and you will see you are not so weak.

Know you for who you are,

A bright and shining, flaming star.

You are unique, none like you.

Just like the snowflake, each made new.

Beautiful to behold,

More precious than gold.

Your courage is not lost, just look inside.

It's OK to be afraid, it's OK to hide.

You are alive!

You survive!

Do you know what courage that takes?

So be strong, even through your mistakes.

Treat others always with respect and honor, be kind,

And you can be assured of having peace of mind.

Oh yeah it is really hard! I just try to stick to the saying of "if you can not say anything nice, then do not say anything at all" That can be hard.

hello DB, wouldnt it be a wonderful world indeed if everyone treated everyone else with respect, honor and kindness? a true utopia i think. sounds so simple, yet in practice, it appears to be nearly impossible.

""Treat others always with respect and honor, be kind,

And you can be assured of having peace of mind.""

    That is very true!

hello Rachel. I wrote this with the desire to help and encourage is not something i myself went through. i see this in the world around me, the people, and i just wanted to give them something to hold onto...that they can realize what and who they are regardless of what the world might try to convince them they are.

thank you for taking the time to read it and for leaving a comment. have a wonderful night.

Sounds beautiful, painful and insightful...the journey through those times it was written must have been something else.
